“Dissatisfied”
Reviewed 13 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

Felt mislead by photos. Comfortable downstairs fully equipped kitchen etc.nice bread milk egg touch.
Found bed extremely small for 2 adults and uncomfortable. Could feel the springs popping out. Shower head should be changed to useful one. No mini shampoo soap in bathroom.
Friendly staff.

We're sorry to hear you felt your stay wasn't perfect. The bed provided is a standard double which we usually find is suitable for most people’s stay, however we will look into the issues you had with the mattress and the shower.
All of the photos that we use have been taken within the last 6 months with the current interior so we feel that they are a true representation of the properties.

“Byre Cottages -weekend away”
Reviewed 13 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

We booked a long weekend away for the family and grandparents. Couldn't fault the lodges at all, very modern, lovely and clean. Great views family friendly. The owners were very helpful and welcoming. Really close to long leat safari which is fantastic and also near to Stonehenge. Great place to eat is The Bell and The Woolpack. Lovely relaxing weekend away

“Beautiful cottage in a beautiful part of the country”

We have just got back home after staying here for a long weekend, miss this place already!

When we arrived we was welcomed by the owners who were friendly and welcoming. When we went into the Cottege we was welcomed with a Christmas card and mince pies and Terry's Chocolate Orange their was also a Christmas tree in the corner of the lounge and lots more other little touches, which all amounted to making our break away just perfect. It felt like a home away from home.

The surrounding were beautiful, it was defiantly worth the money we paid to stay and we hope to return again next year!

The places we visited Longleat, Cheddar Gorge, Bath, Bradford-upon-Avon etc. Were all within reasonable driving distance too and they certainly was some lovely visits!

Thank you Sally & Steve

“Great place ”
Reviewed 7 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

A great place to stay. Very child friendly. Everything you could need in the accommodation; incredibly helpful and couldn't do more for us. Plenty of things for kids to play with and chickens to feed! Lovely views. The only small gripe was the quality of the king size bed which was hard and lumpy but everything else was fantastic. If you want a great place to stay near Frome or longleat don't hesitate in booking here

Hello
We're so glad you, your friends and your children had a nice stay. I think the chickens were a good buy - all children big and small seem to love feeding them!
Thank you for letting us know about the mattress, we have been gradually going through and replacing them, so this Lodge is next - In fact we have already ordered it on next day delivery ready for the guests this weekend!

“How lovely - can I move in”
Reviewed 30 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

If ever I can't be found then add this to the places to look. A great place to stay near everything local but in the middle of the country.

A very warm welcome awaited and basic buys all here for us. Kind enough to take in and out away our food delivery.

Very well maintained and a lovely base I wish I could stay here more often shall have to visit the West Country more often.

Two more days to go but love it already.

“A great child friendly base to come home to....”

We visited the area with our granddaughter to spend a few days at Longleat (well worth doing with a five year old) and found By the Byre by chance online. We were not disappointed. it is an ideal location surrounded by open fields with a very big garden area which is ideal for young children to play in (together with the resident chickens who just love blueberries!) together with well equipped and comfortable cottages. In short it is a home from home where you can relax after a day out with the children, cook if you want to or drive to a selection of good child friendly pubs with value (and wholesome) for money food. Even on a wet day, there is plenty to keep everyone amused in the cottages with games, dvds and the like and at night, total peace and quiet. The property has new resident owners who are updating and improving what is already a good destination and having a young family themselves know what they want to achieve for others, Surely a great recipe for success and a great experience for future guests. Sally and Steve are very friendly, very keen to make sure you have everything you want and deserve to succeed in this new venture. We will return when our youngest grandson is big enough to enjoy Longleat (and then come home to run around the massive garden and feed those chickens) and we have caught our breath back after chasing a five year old around and around...:)

“Very Good Base, Beautiful Location”
Reviewed 30 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We stayed here for a couple of nights as a base for a visit to Longleat. We had our shopping delivered a hour or so before we arrived and this was all packed away ready for our arrival, which we were grateful for. We were warmly welcomed and were pleased with the standard of accommodation too. Our lodge had beautiful views from the lounge and master bedroom, opening up onto grass and we dined outdoors on both nights with a good degree of privacy. The lodge was clean and well equipped. Our children enjoyed the games and toys in the lodge as well as the outdoor toys (they played happily with other children). But I have to agree with previous reviewers about the uncomfortable mattress. Also the blind in the third bedroom was a little temperamental. In fairness we didn't report either to the owners so they had no opportunity to address either. Neither ruined our stay. We would recommend to others.
