Just back from staying 2 weeks at the Ramada in Varca. Not being a lover of hotel food and atmosphere we tend to head out in the evening to sample the local fare.
On our first evening we were disappointed to find that altho there are plenty of beach shacks serving food close to the Ramada there were only 2 restaurants nearby off the beach. We don't mind lunchtime eating on the beach but in the evening prefer a bit more comfort.
Anyway how lucky we were,it helped us to discover Jolinn with there been only 2 to pick from.We did try the other one also, but it was nowhere near as good as Jolinn. In fact we ate here quite a few nights during our stay.We used to think we had found our fav holiday restaurant in our resort in Turkey…but Jolinn beats it for food quality and prices for everything from starters to cocktails!
Special mention to all the staff who make you most welcome and nothing is too much trouble for them.
Their chef is a very likeable young man with an exceptional talent for preparing his dishes. He is so enthusiastic about his trade and will kindly explain how to prepare and cook his dishes if you want to try yourself when you go home.
We want to go back to Goa either next year or 2016 and if we do this restaurant will be the first place we visit…WE LOVED ITS FOOD,and its cocktails were pretty impressive as well!Hoping you enjoy continued success at Jolinn

After reading reviews on Tripadvisor, I changed the decision to go to Martins and chose to try Jolinn instead.

The 1st stumbling block was, that nobody seemed to know where it was (we were coming from Benaulim) finally with help of some locals and internet we managed to reach there.
We reached around 2;30 pm or so and were a bit taken aback by the completely empty restaurant (except for a family of 3). While we were contemplating whether to stay of leave...discouraged by the vacant tables, Jennifer appeared and put our fears to rest.
We ordered, Prawn Balchao, Chicken Vindaloo and Snapper stuffed with Goan Spices.

It was a good decision to stay as the food was Superb.

Do try their Signature cocktail - Ouremberg (or something similar) - Vodka and Baileys mixed with Coconut water served in a Fresh Coconut.

Don't know why there were not more people there. Guess they need to market is better.

I would definitely recommend it as a great place for a taste of Local Goan food

This is where it all started....read a few reviews and decided to try it
The place isn't too far from where we were...started from Benaulim and the road is pretty much straight to varca(just need to follow the street sign boards- VARCA) until u see the sign boards for Ramada hotel and then U can always ask for directions from the locals or just call Isi or Jennifer. We went there for dinner and found parking for our scooter just outside the restaurant.

Just as we entered we were greeted by Isidorio, and I spotted Jennifer behind the bar counter with her ever so warm smile. There was another group of about 10 NRIs and a family of 3 at the time, We were offered our table of choice and since it was just the 2 of us, the boys wasted no time in making our dinner a little more romantic by placing a candle at our table. Drinks and starters were ordered spontaneously and for the main course we asked Isi for suggestions. He put the fresh catch on display for us, which actually made making a decision even more difficult. We finally ordered (I would not want to list specific items which we had, cause that would not be fair. But we are confident that no matter what one would order here, they would never be disappointed).

While the food was being prepared Isi and Jennifer played the perfect hosts and kept us company. I soon learnt that Isi has been halfway around the world and shared some really exciting insights about his various trips. I was all ears and completely engrossed with no knowledge that the food had arrived and soon the two of us had to be separated, me by my partner and Isi by his better half.

Food was served in a very presentable manner and lived up to every review we had read.
We finished our meals at about 11:00 pm and then joined Isi and Jen by the bar to hear more of their stories. That's when we were invited to their beach side shack for the new yrs eve dinner, which would be followed by an exorbitant display of fire crackers and lighting of Chinese lanterns and releasing them into the beautiful night sky as we welcomed the new yr.
Close to about 01:30 AM we rode back home and decided to head back there the next day ....the night unfolded exactly as mentioned by me earlier, which was followed by some dancing & drinking. We were into the new year now with beautiful memories from last one and some very cool new friends made in the new one.

To summarise my review, here you have it.

Pros:
1. The Food
2. Easy accessibility of the restaurant
3. Service from the heart
4. The waiters/helpers are very friendly and pay attention to every detail.
5. The food was delicious ( my partner and I dint speak a word as we hogged, in fact the only sounds uttered were Mmmmmss , that of chewing and the final burp)

Cons:
1. They accept cash only - (there are interesting stories behind this too)
2. There is no view as such. I would not complain about this for 2 simple reasons:-
(i) Isi and Jennifer kept us company the whole time and there wasn't a minute when we felt like we were missing a view, of course that said, it's not like they will be invading your privacy. We willingly asked them to join us before and after the meal.
&
(ii) the next day Isi and Jen invited us over to their beach shack( SUNSET PARADISE) where we got a table right outside on the beach with the low tide flowing and ebbing upto a few metres from our feet. Turned out to be one of the best experiences and a fantastic view of the ocean with the sunset.
Later that night we ushered in the new year and watched fire crackers dazzle the night sky and released our very own Chinese lanterns which were arranged by another group who were invited over. So much for missing the view on the first night.

My Final words: Don't think too much guys, just head there and let them handle the rest.
Bon appetite!!!
