I notice that many reviews are about the beautiful beaches around the hotel rather than the hotel itself, so I will try and be more precise. We arrived to an impressive foyer, fountains etc. but a cold, unfriendly reception. The first disappointment was that Wifi cost 600 rupees a day. We have travelled widely in India this year and have never had to pay. I asked if there was any reduction for a week and was made by the unsmiling 'guest relations' lady to feel like a cheeky schoolgirl. Then we were led through a long corridor with a badly stained carpet to our room which was tired looking, with mouldy grouting in the bathroom. This was cleaned when I requested it. the A/C didn't work properly and the under manager said he realised the wing we were in needed refurbishment which was due to happen later in the year, which wasn't much consolation to us. We had a mosquito problem and got bitten a lot, in spite of plug-ins because the walls had a 'popcorn' finish where they could lurk unseen. On the plus side, the gardens are beautiful and well maintained with a lovely pool. Also on the beach sun beds and towels are provided and all the staff around the premises are hard working, attentive and always friendly. We really could not fault them. We know Goa well and the beach is delightful although Varca is rather cut off and you need a taxi to get anywhere. The week's Wifi cost about £40.

We stayed in Ramada Caravela Beach Resort - and had a great time.

Though an old construction, the property is vast and offers all you'd want.

The pros: Clean and hygienic rooms. Good service. Great pool. Amazing beach spot --- white sand, clean, next to shacks (if you love Goan food, don't miss Sea Pearls shack run by Savio!), water sports and beautiful views. Activity center for kids. Food at the Indian+Continental restaurant was surprisingly good! Bar preparations were good too.

The cons: While the breakfast buffet spread was huge, there may be some room to focus on quality food (rather than quantity).

Would certainly go again!

PS: Read some reviews about the hotel being far from the airport. Since most hotels in South Goa (specifically good beach resorts) are quite a drive from the airport - we felt that the distance was just fine.

Absolutely soothing experience, very nice place, good service, felt completely comfortable, realized that little thing like cycling on the quiet beach shore can revitalize, a huge green lush lawns is a treat to the eyes...

The hotel is quite far from the airport, so be prepared for a fairly long drive. The hotel is on Varca beach - far from the madding crowds and flea markets. Instead there are miles of pristine beaches, warm clear water and swaying palms. The resort itself is fairly big with lawns, gardens and a miniature golf course all ending in an almost private beach. There's a lot of activities one can engage in - the hotel has bikes you can rent, daily yoga classes by a yoga guru, learn golf, get a massage at the spa, swim in the pool, use the jacuzzi steam and sauna facilities, sleep on hammocks or just lie down with your book and a bottle of beer on a sundeck on the beach. My personal favourite was a deck on a hillock at the end of the golf course overlooking the beach - aptly named "Sunset Point".

Room Tip: The upgrade to luxury room is totally worth the money.
