The whole trip was fun and was glad that we were given upgrade to one of the villas which was nice though no ammenities in the toilets - not an issue for me. The only flaw was upon check out, we were held as they claimed the we have lost a towel or two from the pool area which might be true as there were 16 of us who borrowed towels. One of the staffs in charge of the towels was holding as up and telling us to pay for the towels. But what irked me was when he told me to go back to the pool area and help him find the towel and the body language was so annoying that it felt like we stole the towels. Anyway, we talked to the manager and all was fine. Aside from this, all was great!

I traveled with my mother last December and upon arriving at the ferry terminal in Bintan Island the staff of Nirwana was already there to greet me and there was a bus carrying passengers to the hotel. The Garden-view room was just a few meters away from the sea and the beach there was quite good. Moreover, if you wanted to go to different locations within the scope of Nirwana Group there was a shuttle bus that would carry you to different destinations. The downside of this hotel was the hefty price of the restaurant (much more expensive than Singapore even!).

I live in Singapore and wanted a short break with my Husband so Bintan was ideal. I'd left it a bit last minute so wasn't able to get into the Spa area of the resort so we settled for the Nirwana Resort Hotel.
The service was excellent and as we arrived very early on the island they staff tried to get us into our room early and offered us an alternative.
This place is great if you have kids as there are a couple of play areas and large pool. Not so great for a quiet romantic weekend.
We had fun, and may go back.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a balcony and if you want it to be quieter go to the far left side of the beach...

This place served the purpose as a quick get-away from Singapore, but not much more. Pool area and beach is nice, but I could have done without the pool bar with Singapore prices. Rooms are clean and OK for sleeping. All in all the short trip we had (3 days, 2 nights) was nice and relaxing, but the price level and the touristy feel to the place is not really what I am looking for. E

We had a wonderful day and night at Bintan, Nirwana has got a spectacular beach, mainly very clean and quiet. The hotel is a little tired and certainly overpriced like all the Bintan hotels, so do try to get a deal. Room was nice, bit old, no balcony, but they opened the windows for us and we had a sea view, it was clean and comfortable. The seafood restaurant is very nice , atmospheric, free transport, but the food is less tasty and more expensive than expected. Singapore prices. Pool is lovely, the grounds are spacious and you can walk around from resort to resort, there's even a little zoo. We enjoyed it all, except the prices for mediocre food quality.

Room Tip: ask if you can get a balcony, so much nicer. They cost extra...

ever feel you want a getaway weekend to the beach...well this place is it... Firstly u get a sense of leaving the country when u travel via ferry from singapore to indonesia. From families to couples, you feel like u have boarded the love boat...well a ferry for a the very least. Once you arrive, you are swarmed with those that came with you at immigration then greeted by eagerly awaiting staff from nirwana who sweep away your luggages. You are then scuttle off to the orange bus where you meet again some of those on board the ferry. The travel to the resort takes about 10mins where you are tunneled into some private estate. And voila...you greeted by two large elephants...statues. Then for some lucky ones even a local dance. Complimentary drinks are given which feels almost like a drink that was unheartedly made. But you forget about it once you see the view of the beach not far from your reach. Once you receive your keys...you are off to your room...for those who are lucky again or paid more, you may be rewarded with the seaview rooms but also the penetrating sun...after all thats wat you came for. Ouy came the swimming togs and sunscreen...off to the beach....well perphaps the pool was more inviting. A great poolside bar but overpriced drinks....which ironically is the same for every restaurants in the resort. Once you drink a drink you drank it all. Trust me...its the same with the food. Breakfast lunch and dinner seemingly seems to be the same ingredrients but cooked in many ways. Then again thats only wat you get...no macdonalds or kfc. Although the infamous kelong is worth the visit but once again overpriced. But for the sunset view, its a must. So soaking in the pool was pretty much the event of all things i came for...staring to the so called horizon of the beach...deemingly making myself feel that i am actually having a weekend away.

This is my third review of this hotel, but that is because this is the third visit within 2 years.

This time we stayed in a regular garden facing twin room as the beachfront deluxe rooms were all taken. Everything was pretty much as we had experienced previously, except it was clear to me this time that housekeeping was lacking.

Despite being promised that we would have fresh towels by mid-afternoon on the day of our check-in, nothing had arrived by 7pm and we had to chase housekeeping twice. And even then, we only had the bare towels with all other linens missing.

The next day, they changed our towels and left us a towel short and another round of chasing for fresh towels ensued.

Being an Easter weekend, it was crowded. The poolside was perpetually short of towels ... with ourselves, and I notice other familes ... having 2-3 people sharing one pool towel. Naturally, deck chairs were in short supply and some people were just sitting around on the benches to enjoy the sun.

What also caught us by surprise was that Nirwana had no a-la carte menu in the cafe for lunch which they used to. Most of the food was international , rather than local indonesian. We had to make the trek to Mayang Sari for local food.

For dinner, we decided to try the Kelong again, after having not eaten there for almost 6 years. Sadly - the cooking (which may impress tourists from outside the region) did not impress us. The cooking oil used was stale.

The package/massage we had at the Kedaton spa was also mediocre. Each visit the standard seems to have dropped just a bit from the visit before... the technique of the masseuse was erratic, the oils used were often cold to the touch ... and this trip, we noticed that the usual footbath treatment had also gone missing in the package.

This is not even to talk about the beach-side massage run by Kedaton we tried for the first time. The technique of the masseuse was dismal ... they yabbed incessantly ... and one masseuse was clearly sleeping on one of the massage beds beside us.

Sadly, the spa's best days are behind us. We have visited from the days they were managed by the Asmara (10 years ago?) ... and each year we re-visit the standard seems to have slipped... just a bit.

For my future visit to Bintan, I will try harder to find alternative resorts.

All in, for what a visit to Nirwana costs (very expensive), with everything being relatively expensive (esp the spa)

Room Tip: Pay more for a deluxe room. They are clearly outfitted better.
