This is a quality boutique resort!
The attention to detail is amazing- the staff go above and beyond expectations and we have travelled extensively through Asia and Europe. This is the best all round experience and I can compare it to The Marriott in Phuket, which is 5 star- and before attending Casa Del Mar, was our best Asian experience...
The location of the resort is amazing aside of being only a 10 minute drive from the airport, the resort fronts onto the best beach in Langkawi - which is endless sand for romantic strollers, joggers and jet ski funsters..And if you don't want to eat in-house (reasonable prices compared to Bali/Thai resorts), it's only a stroll of 5 minutes to find a plethora of fresh Fish, Chinese, Mexican and Italian fare which is all great value and delicious.
We will be returning next year.
Thank you to all the staff at Casa Del Mer, Langkawi. :)

Room Tip: As it's a boutique resort with na small amount of rooms, there aren't any bad rooms....it d...

A small boutique style resort which provides VIP service for every visitor. We knew what we were getting from what he had read but there was so much more offered by the staff at CDM. They do the little, unexpected things so well. Yes, eating at CDM is not cheap compared with Malaysian standards but it is equivalent to what you would pay for a good meal in Australia. However, there are plenty of other quality options available right outside the front door of CDM. This hotel is perfectly suited for couples.
The only let down for this hotel is its neighbours. Unfortunately, there are several backpacker style resorts up the road and they tended to leave the beach in a mess. This was really disappointing for us during our morning strolls along the beach.
Other than that, truly perfect!

Room Tip: Certainly pay the extra to have a beach front room as the poolside rooms will have other visitors ly...

The title says it all really - it's at least the best hotel we've ever been to. From the moment we booked until the moment we left, the service was absolutely first rate, the facilities are excellent and the staff are friendly and welcoming.

We booked through the hotel's own website, having seen good reviews on TripAdvisor, and within 24 hours had an e-mail from the hotel's staff asking us a few questions about our visit. We arranged airport transfers through the hotel (which were a bit more than a taxi fare would have been, but still not very expensive) and then had flight problems which meant we were five hours late - we phoned CDM to let them know and they rearranged our transfer with no problem at all.

On arrival, the front desk man, Wira, provided us with a refreshing drink and cold towel while we checked in, and then we were shown to our beachfront studio suite - ours was "Acacia", which was the last one in the block and is right next to the (unconnected) bar next door to the hotel. We were initially concerned about noise from that bar as they have live music on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights, but the guy who does it plays acoustic guitar and sings soft rock classics and is really quite good - he also doesn't finish that late, so it was no problem getting to sleep.

The studio suite has a table and chairs, a big sofa, a king size bed, TV, iPod docking station, DVD player and a minibar fridge which is big enough to get a couple of extra things in it if you want to. There are coffee, leaf tea (and a cafetiere and teapot) and hot chocolate sachets provided, along with fresh milk which is replaced daily. There are also home-baked biscuits, peanuts and a fresh fruit platter daily. Because it was our honeymoon, we were also given a bunch of red roses and a complimentary bottle of wine was brought round in the middle of our stay. The bathroom was large and well laid out, and the complimentary toiletries included proper conditioner, a comparative rarity in hotels. CDM also has the biggest towels (both for the bathroom and the pool) that I have ever seen - be warned that all other towels will feel somewhat inadequate afterwards!

The hotel complex includes a beautiful swimming pool (quite dark pool tiles mean that the water heats up, so when the air starts to get cooler in the late afternoon, the pool's a bit like a bath), a whirlpool/jacuzzi, a pool bar and a "library" (which has board games, DVDs and books that you can borrow). We especially enjoyed the cocktails at the pool bar, which are cheap (for a hotel bar) by Malaysian standards in part because Langkawi is tax free, and we also enjoyed chatting with Mood, one of the barmen. Guests are also well looked after during the day by the pool and on the beach - fresh iced drinking water is provided regularly, along with occasional plates of fruit, ice pops (frozen mango, mmmm) and cold towels - most hotels would let you overheat and starve so that you spend more in their bar, not so here.

The hotel has a couple of sea kayaks, which are free to use, and we paddled over to a nearby island a couple of times, which was great fun. They also have four free to use mountain bikes (with helmets) that we didn't use, but looked to be in pretty good condition, and two hobbie cat sailing boats. We went on a couple of tours booked through the hotel with Dev's Adventure Tours (see separate review) - the mangrove boat tour and the night walk, which allowed us to see some of Langkawi's varied wildlife. We disagree entirely with the reviewers who say there isn't a lot to do on Langkawi - it may not have a banging nightlife or glitzy malls, but I wouldn't go to a tropical island for that in any case - it has a lot of water sport activities, a fun (if a little tired) aquarium, the cable car ride and a whole lot of activities based in and around the Kilim Geopark, where you can really get in touch with nature.

We also made use of the spa, which was excellent - we particularly liked Hani.

The breakfast buffet did not have as wide a selection as I have seen in other hotels, but what it lacked in that area it made up for in quality - home made jams and passionfruit curd, warm pains-au-chocolat, real toasters (not those horrible conveyor belt jobs). Guests can also choose an item from the a la carte menu, which includes western (pancakes, eggs any way you like) and local options (roti canai). We didn't eat at the hotel at lunchtime or in the evening, mainly because there is so much choice in Pantai Cenang that we wanted to try other places.

The evening before we left, we had to rearrange our transfer again because of more flight problems (we'll be reviewing Firefly with regard to that!), and because the contractor company couldn't do the new time at short notice, Wira got the CDM car out and took us himself.

Another bonus is the involvement of the managers throughout - Robert and Fauzi (we understand that the GM, Tom, was away at a meeting while we were there) are visible and interested in their guests' experiences at the hotel.

The only downside to our stay was that we did it first in our holiday, so it made some of the other places we stayed seem a bit disappointing by comparison!

While we were there, the hotel's 2012 TripAdvisor award plaque was installed - we think it is well-deserved. Apparently, a significant proportion of the guests are repeat customers - if we ever have the chance to visit the region again, we'll be back!

Room Tip: Rooms with names beginning with A are further from the road and the pool area than most others, so a...

The CDM is a fine 4 star hotel conveniently situated on a very good beach. It is however, given Langkawi is a tax free island, extremely overpriced. The biggest problem with the hotel is the crass behaviour of the predominantly Britisth guests who feel the need to get up before the sun comes up to claim their territorial sunbeds .These sad idiots sit on the same beds day in and day out for the duration of their holidays even though the hotel has a policy of not hogging the loungers. There are fair amount of restaurants along the beach and the main road all of them much cheaper than eating in the hotel and one in particular The Brasserie which is much better than the Casa restaurant .Others are Champor Champor and Orkid Ria.

Dear guest,

You are right stating Langkawi is a duty free island. This privilege helps everyone running businesses on the island to offset a logistic overcost. In comparison with Penang, Langkawi does not enjoy a bridge with the mainland, therefore all goods are transported by barge and managed/owned by one company exclusively. The logistic is therefore more complex and costly, slows down deliveries of goods but in the other hand contributes a lot to the island feel and tranquilness.

Lovely hotel right on beach. Superb food prepared by master chef and fun pool bar. Service good but not as outstanding as trip advisor 2010/2011 reviews suggested. Previous returning guests stated they felt service gone down somewhat and hotel appeared to have less staff than before (glasses not cleared away, rooms only cleaned after lunch etc).
Good 4 star hotel, very very friendly staff but hotel rates overvalued (probably because of their previous outstanding trip advisor reviews & awards in 2009/2010). In our opinion there is better value and service in Thailand. Nothing about this hotel or service that wow, amazing truly worther every Ringitt.
Very little to do outside hotel other than the cable car ride and hotel sunset cruise. Maybe ideal for honeymooners who want to be alone or guests who simply want a beach hotel to just chill. Maybe a little boring for anyone expecting some nightlife or shopping experience. Spa service treatments very pleasant but not up to the marketing hype or level of 5 star hotels. Not trying to be negative and would recommend this hotel but so many better hotels in the region at same or lower price. However, probably one of the best in Lankawi if thats where you want to be. For us, been there, experienced Lankawi but would not do it again.

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea, beds & pillows are heaven

Dear guests,

Many thanks for your long review and critics over our service. I do appreciate the feedback and understand that it is made constructively. As you have noticed we have faced some challenges in service due to staffing. This situation has now improved.
My sincere apologies, I hope these issues did not detract too much from your stay. Your comments indicate that you had otherwise enjoyed your time at Casa del Mar.

For our readers, Langkawi is certainly not a destination rich in happening night life and even less for shopping. In the other hand it offers a wide panel of diverse activities from discovering the Geopark, mangrove, jungle fauna and flora to sailing around 99 islands. There is also few golfs, scuba diving, snorkeling etc...

Me and my husband spent there 4 nights in February. It was part of our honeymoon and I must say we couldn´t be happier and there is probably no better choise on Langkawi.
This small boutique resort is really excellent. The rooms are beautiful, food is great, the staff is very friendly, they are spoilnig you all the time...
There is not much to add to all excellent reviews, everything is really great. So great, that my husband and me didn´t even wanna discover the island and rather stayed on the beach during the day, because it would be a pitty to miss a minute of the day there.
If we ever go back to Langkawi, then certainly ond only back to Casa del Mar.

It's our first trip to Langkawi. My husband and I were looking forward to this holiday and Casa Del Mar made this trip really memorable for us. When searching for a place to stay, we simply relied on the positive feedback and reviews from previous guests of this resort. We were not disappointed.

Upon checking-in, we were greeted by their very friendly staff. We also enjoyed the welcome drink. The room is cozy, comfy, and perfect for couples on holiday with perfect view of the pool or the beach. The pool is kept clean and very inviting. They also has a good selection of movies, and books for their guests.

One thing I noticed is the consistency on the friendliness of your staff to all guests. They are very attentive to our needs, very helpful, and are always smiling.

Excellent location, accommodation, and dining experience. We really had a wonderful time. I am already promoting and recommending this resort to my friends.

Room Tip: There's not much difference between casa seaview and beachfront studio suites.
