Reviewed 10 January 2010

My (now husband) and I travel alot but up until recently we have never bothered reviewing (even though we heavily rely on Trip Advisor for our own travels). When we were booking our honeymoon, having travelled to Casa del Mar multiple times previously, we felt we had to build it into part of our honeymoon (also taking in new places) because we love it so much. We decided that it really was about time that we sign up and write a review about this wonderful place, that we always return to.

All the previous posters are correct about how special CDM is (which is why CDM has such a high number of return guests). What makes CDM special is that you have all the luxury you could possibly want (glorious scenery and views to make for a romantic dinner setting, cold towels, ice pops at beach, water melon, great cocktails, gorgeous breakfasts, fabulous staff etc) but you don't have the isolated luxury of higher end hotels such as the Datai. Whilst the staff at CDM are very friendly and helpful, they are wholly unobtrusive. It's a perfect balance. The staff really are exceptional and we would like to specially thank them all - they know us by now!

On a different note - guests that are travelling to Langkawi for the first time, as well as eating in the La Sal (CDM's own restaurant) you should really visit Bon Ton and Unkaizan. Great restaurants.

It's our opinion that CDM is the only place to stay in Langkawi.

Very disappointed with this service. Booked online. Submitted AmEx details. Receive email confirmation and booking code etc. Go into airline website. Buy and pay for flights and then late the next day the hotel write and say that it was a mistake on their internet booking platform! Cannot confirm booking. No suggeestion or compensation except postpone your trip for 3 weeks. Terrible.

We stayed at Casa del Mar for two days after having previously been next door at the Meritus Pelangi and probably wished that we'd spent all of our time at the Casa !. This was also after having visited the Four Seasons and Tanjung Rhu to compare amenities and location.

The bottom line is that all of the good reviews about Casa are spot on. If you want somewhere that is couples orientated, offers great service, lovely appointed rooms ( including the bathroom ) with all amenities, superb restaurant , beachfront location , easy stroll to beach restaurants or to restaurants and shops in Pantai Cenang, free internet .........this is the place.

The beachfront location is fantastic . It may not be as secluded as the Four Seasons or the Datai, but then the Casa really scores if you don't want to spend all your time in the resort and don't want the hassle of a 20km trip each way to experience a more 'local' scene.

Resort facilities are very good, but on a much smaller scale than some of the other hotels. This does not detract from the Casa as there are only some 40 odd rooms anyway. However, as always, it is the small things that make the difference . Having jugs of ice water brought to the sunbed without any prompting, footbaths outside the rooms to wash away sand, coffee plunger in the room, beautiful toiletries that are the same as those used in the Spa. It just makes it that bit more special .....and at a fraction of the price of the Datai/ Four Seasons !.

There are plenty of good restaurants within easy walking distance or a short bike ride.
Spa's , shops, bike/car rental, laundry can all be found a few mins walk away.

Within the area check out Putumayo, La Sal (Casa restaurant itself), the Lighthouse and Champor Champor restaurants. Tried the Bon Ton which was good, but perhaps did not quite live up to expectactions given that it was a bit more expensive.

My advice on Kuah - don't bother as a location to base yourself unless you have a compelling reason to do so. It was hard to see what the attraction would be , if any, for staying there vs Pantai Cenang.

Personally I'd recommend hiring a bike/ car - the roads are empty and there aren't that many of them so its pretty hard to get lost !.

This was our 2nd visit to CDM, this time with an 8 month old baby and family in tow. Luckily our baby was very well behaved as I would not recommend this place for families with noisy children as you will disrupt the wonderful serenity & relaxing atmosphere this place is known for. Food was outstanding, cocktails awesome, staff attentive, Manager's drinks fun and the atmosphere peaceful.
The rooms are not as sumptuous or slick as other '5 star' resorts but apparently they are going to be renovated next year. However, they are still really lovely and it's the small touches like the handmade soap, stockings on Christmas day and freshly made biscuits in the room that really make this place stand out.

We have travelled quite a lot these last ten years all over the world. We have stayed at luxurious hotels, design hotels and beach resorts. This hotel is probably the best hotel we´ve ever stayed at. It has it all. The location right on the most beautiful part of Pantai Cenang beach in Langkawi with white sand and almost empty of other people. Calm and peaceful surroundings with some other nice beach restaurants close by.
Its a small hotel with only 34 rooms still it has a lot of service. There is a bar right on the beach by the swimming pool. They have a restaurant with tables also out on the sandy beach be sure to book your table when you get there and you get a chance to sit on the front row watching the stunning sunset in the sea. The restaurant serves excellent fusion cross over kitchen dishes and the menu is quite large so there will be something for everybody to enjoy. Breakfast is complimentary and is served as well in the bar/restaurant area and is a combination of your hot choice from the menu and a smaller buffet. Coffee or tea and fresh squeezed orange juice is brought to your table. The buffet changed slightly every day and thats good if you stay for a longer time. The hot food for breakfast was pure high quality gastronomy. Eggs Benedicte and excellent french toast among many other things. There is a library/lounge where music is played every night on the piano. Sunbeds are on the beach and round the pool. The staff brings you fresh melon, cold water, ice pops, cold towels during the day without a cost and its ofcourse also possible to order something for lunch or a snack or a drink throughout the day. Towels for the sunbeds are brought to you daily to your room without a cost.
We had a sea front room and we strongly recommend these. A spacey room with a large window towards the sea. You have your own patio with two chairs and a small lawn in front of your room entrance. Rooms have air conditioning, flat TV screen with several international channels. Wifi internet is complimentary in your room and worked excellent. You get fresh fruit complimentary to your room daily and they have facilities for boiling water to make your own coffee or tea. There is even a can with biscuits that is refilled daily for free. There is a minibar with everything you might need that you ofcourse pay for. The room has a safe for your valuables. The bathroom is large with a separate shower and bathtub. The cinnamon soap provided is heavenly and can be bought in the hotel spa shop if you want to take some with you at home.
A newspaper is provided to your room daily, besides that every morning you also get a printed short news summary we were delighted to find that we also had one page in swedish from a swedish newspaper website, this is a good thing to bring with you to read while enjoying breakfast. In the evening you get a small note with the weather forecast for the following days and complimentary bottles of water. Rooms was clean and well maintained and had excellent bed and pillows.
Best of all is the very personal attention that you get as a guest. After a few days it seems that everybody knows you and you are always treated with a smile. Where ever you go whatever you do you ge the feeling that the staff is really there for you and taking care of you. We understood that many of the guests had been here several times before and its no wonder that they come back.
This hotel is suitable for people that has a sense for good culinary experiences when it comes to food and who are looking for a relaxing peaceful romantic retreat without screaming children. We are extremely happy that we chose to stay here on our Malaysia round trip cause this was an experience and a memory for our lifetime. Its a bit more expensive than other hotels in Malaysia but compared to scandinavian price levels and service this is an extremely good value for your money. Probably one of the best hotels in the world in this category.

hi,

we stayed for our honeymoon and had a great time. the people were fab and the location was excellent! the rental cas down the road on the right were great too and cheap! had some fab days out and the hotel had awesome food but was much more expensive than other places in the same town. one of our favourite places was a traditional thai place which you needed to get a taxi to - it was on the second strip of places the opposite end to casa. there is also a great massage place opposite the hotel. we had an amazing time and met some lovely people - happy hour rocked!!!!
