“Phenomenal service and food and great views”
Reviewed 12 December 2010

My partner and I booked to stay in the Casa Del Mar after reading reviews on TripAdvisor and the placed was as good as we hoped. When we arrived someone (literally) ran out the hotel to get our bags from the taxi, guided us through the check in process and then gave us a detailed tour of our room. Throughout our stay we found the customer service very good. All the staff were genuinely helpful and spoke good quality English.

We had a ground floor room facing the beach. The room was an okay size but the bed was good quality and the bathroom was large a quite posh. There were the usual items (tv telephone etc) but you also got a DVD player, with a reasonable sized DVD library available in reception. You also have two seats outside your door so you can sit and watch the sea in the shade.

The food in this was place was excellent! Breakfast was la carte (no macky buffet) and some real top notch stuff, however the focus was on quality, not quantity, so you might have to load up using the toast making facilities they have. The Dinner menu was a bit pricier than eating out the hotel but was certainty cheaper than the Hilton we stayed in, and was also very good quality. From memory, I think there were about eight Malaysian dishes, then a steak and lamb options. My partner is veggie and she found the menu okay for choice (which was a bit of a god send because Malaysia generally isn’t very veggie friendly). There is a light lunch menu which has the usual pizza and burger options when you’re looking for a taste of home.

The hotel bar is outside near the beach which serves a wide range of cocktails and tiger and a few lagers. The beers were reasonably priced compared to other places we stayed in Malaysia, but weren’t cheap. I was paying about RM 12 for Tiger, which translated to £2.40 at the time.

The beach had the obligatory white sands and stunning views of small islands and the sea, however it is developed, so don’t expect a desert tropical island when booking. However the neighbours are far enough away so you can’t hear or see then when sitting on the hotel beach chairs. There were sea activities (eg jet skis and banana boats) however these were relatively small in number and stayed away from the hotel so didn’t bother us during our stay.

The hotel does offer excursion but thought they were a bit pricy so didn’t take any. They do offer free sea canoes which we used to go to the next island, which was a lot of fun. There is also free wifi throughout the hotel and near the beach!

The weather during our stay (December 10) was overcast, but it was certainly hot enough for us and all the German tourists in the hotel. When we were leaving (sods law) the clouds did clear and we did get to see how beautiful this place is when the sun is out.

Me and my partner aren’t one for beach holidays but this hotel was very good. Definitely worth the bit extra.

We are locals. We stay 4 nights at the end of October.

From the great reviews on Tripadvisor, we had very high expectations...............and we were not disappointed. Location of the hotel was great, it was a short drive from the airport. The beaches in front of the hotel was kept nicely clean, despite being open to the public.

The absolute highlight of the trip was the food from at the restaurant. It was fabulous! I keep commenting to my friends that where in Malaysia can you enjoy a 6 star quality meal sitting by the beach in your shorts and slippers?

The staff at the hotel were always very helpful and friendly. Being locals, we were always used to given second rate treatment, but this was not the case at Casa.

Attentive polite staff from beginning to end. Treat customers with respect yet at the same time are very friendly and want to get to know you (although they are not intrusive).
Lovely modern hotel. Great food and cocktails.
Good relaxing yet modern music around bar and pool. Great sunloungers around pool and on the beach - just when you were beginning to feel thirsty the waiter would arrive with complimentary jug of iced water and melon - it's amazing how small touches like this make your stay even better.
Good location - shops and restaurants literally as you walk out the gates.
If you can afford to stay in this hotel - go for it!

Arranged for airport transfer which certainly beat the crowds waiting for a taxi in the humidity at the airport. Arrived at the hotel and checked in with the incredibly friendly staff. We were given a very extensive tour before being shown to our room. This room was not what we booked and was by far the best hotel room we have ever stayed in. It had two balconies, a massive bathroom, a lounge room with two couches and a flat screen TV, a sitting room off the bedroom with another couch and a desk and then the bedroom with a king size bed with another flat screen TV. It looked over the beach and the pool. There was an air conditioner and ceiling fan in each of these rooms. As we discovered we were in the deluxe suite but only paying for a Sea View room. Being booked for eight days obviously has its privileges.
The breakfast every morning was incredible to say the least. The staff were efficient, the food fresh, the coffee good.
The dinners at the restaurant were also incredible and again the service was exceptional and the setting very romantic and relaxed.
The cold towels infused with peppermint and hand delivered by the staff at various times of the day were a very nice touch. The water melon and water delivered without asking was also a great touch. The setting was incredible and while it took us a few days to slip into a 'resort mode' kind of feeling this place certainly pushed us into it much faster than some of our friends at other hotels in Langkawi.
We used the gym almost everyday and it was great by hotel standards. Well equipped with machines and free weights. Well stocked with cold towels, bath towels and gym towels. Bring your own music as there is a great stereo system in there. Next to the gym, there is a theater room which we used and has excellent equipment, couches and tea/coffee.
Just when you think everything is perfect, on our last night a bottle of fantastic Australian red wine was delivered to our room with a personal note from the general manager of the resort - we have no idea why but who cares? we drank it anyway.
Many, many Australian hotels and, for that matter, hotels around the world can learn alot from the staff and management at this resort. The care taken of the guests, the friendliness, the quality of the food and drinks and the atmosphere are all excellent.
The hotel far exceeded our expectations and we will recommend it all of our friends.

This boutique hotel by the sea is absolute paradise. If you are going to Langkawi you must experience it. The hotel is on the sea front, has a beautiful outlook to the islands of Langkawi & beautiful grounds to relax in.
The staff throughout the whole resort are friendly & attentive. Their guest recognition is outstanding but they also know when to be discreet... The attention to detail in everything they do is exceptional. We couldn't recommend it highly enough. they are up there with the top hotels of the world without the stuffiness.
While you laze by the beautiful pool they pamper you with cold peppermint face cloths, iced water, sliced fresh fruit & home made fruit ice blocks... You don't even need to ask they just come around quietly.
We stayed in a sea view room, the rooms have a very comfortable bed & lovely amenities which are replenished in the room & bathroom daily. The home baked biscuits are delicious & the cinnamon soap is good.
Breakfast has a great selection of a'la carte hot dishes so everything is fresh & hot (unlike a buffet breakfast that sits around) & they provide a selection of cold breakfast items which are topped up as needed. Satisfying all tastes! Great coffee & tea too...
The location is on the entrance to town so if you want to wander through the street to explore, it is at your door. There are a few restaurants, bars & retail shops to browse. One restaurant we must recommend is across the road looking over the rice paddies. Jimmy's cafe, excellent curries.
Dinner at the hotel on the beach with your toes in the sand is a romantic experience. The Day Spa is a must to visit for some needed pampering. Enjoy drinks at the bar listening to chilled music & watching the sunset. This is layed back & quiet destination but just what you need on some holidays.
The only complaint we had was that we had to leave Casa del Mar after 8 luxurious nights. Congratulations to all the team there for winning the "best boutique resort in Malaysia" you well & truly deserve it... We look forward to our next visit.

I know this place is mostly for adult couples, not really catering to the kids, but we never travel without our kids, so we decided we'd chance it and see how they handled little kids.

As previously mentioned, the strength of this hotel lies in its very personal and friendly service. Its a small cosy little place, 30+ rooms, and staff make an effort to remember all the guests by name, their preferences, even their itineraries, and they enjoy talking to you, giving advice about where to go and what to eat. They were great with the kids too.

The whole hotel is at the northern end of Pantai Cenang beach, of Spanish architecture. At its centre is the pool, beside that, the restaurant, lobby and pool bar, and just steps away, the beach and the fantastic view of the islands to the west, and the Andaman Sea. Its very compact, very cosy, and nicely quiet, though the beach does get quite busy just off to the south.

Our room was a suite on the second floor ( the only room type that allowed children ), as big as a small apartment, with two flat screen tvs, a huge bathroom complete with bath and shower, four poster bed, and a hammock. yep, hammock. perfect for the lazy afternoons. there was a little counter for coffee and tea, with electric kettle, and a little desk for personal correspondence. And the best part were the full length windows facing the beach, perfect for gazing out and admiring the sunsets. the only down side were the occasional mosquito, possibly due to the padi fields just opposite.

They do offer a range of daytrips and cruises out. We opted for a "castaway picnic" - what should have been a romantic option, ( as romantic as it can get with two little kids tagging along ). It started with a private boat trip to the Lake of Pregnant Maiden, where a short walk up and down some stairs led us to a fairly scenic lake. After that, we were brought, and stranded on a private little beach, complete with little pavilion, comfortable cushiony day beds and a whole lot of food and ice cold drinks that we couldn't finish. The kids spent the whole time playing in the sand and the sea, before the private boat came to fetch us a few hours later - much too short a time, according to the kids. Definitely a must-do for honeymooners.

And the spa - a must-visit. advice to the lads, a spa-pampered girl is a happy girl. The massage was really good, and the aromatic oils quite relaxing.

The food was good, simple, well prepared fare made with good ingredients. That said, we did explore pantai cenang for the local fare, and quite loved the food at Haji Ramli's, just 50m down and opposite the road from CDM.

All in, a really satisfying holiday. we spend half our holiday by the pool and the other half gallivanting around the island. and i'm sure we'll be back.
