The only reason why I'm talking about this place on Tripadvisor is because I'm leaving Malta. It's THAT good. If you're not familiar with Ftiras, these are sandwiches made with a local type of rustic crust bread (as can be seen in the picture). The place isn't much to look at. It's small and a bit run down. The owner isn't exaclty the winner of the "Smile of the year" competition. But the quality of the ftiras, the speed at which they are made, the stonishingly cheap prices, and the local flavour add up to a magic cocktail.
I personally prefer the tuna ftiras over the bacon ones, but that's me. I strongly recommend trying both as they won't break the bank anyway (€1,80 for the tuna version and €2,50 for the bacon if I remember correctly). The menu on the wall is in maltese only. But I´ve only seen people buying these two types of ftiras with very small variations (like adding gozitan cheese). So don´t worry. You can also buy a tea or a sweet tea to down them on the spot. But I usually get take away as it gets quite busy for lunch and the place is super small.
Honestly. Malta is full of italian restaurants and english pubs. Go local. Pastizzi are full of fat, so I´m not much of a fan, but these sandwiches are well worth a small drive (I should know, I´ve been driving there from Santa Venera twice a week for three months now!).
