The hotel is so accommodating, we went as 2 couples and bought 4 dogs with us, our room was lovely in the cottages across from the hotel. It was lovely to go to a hotel that is pet friendly, food is superb we could not fault it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Dear Shell1974

Thank you for your review, we are dog owners ourselves (a very lazy Lab) so can understand how important it is for guests to feel at home with their pets. The cottages seems to be very popular with dog owners. As you discovered this is wonderful walking country with easy access to the moors and coast for those 'muts' who enjoy a good splash!

Thank you for your kind words re the food and the team they certainly do their best!

We look forward to welcoming you all back soon.

Regards

Tony Finn

We stayed here recently with our 3 dogs. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the girl on reception who never stopped and made us, and other guests feel most welcome and nothing was a bother. We took advantage of settling in front of the lovely open coal fire for the evening and within minutes we were totally relaxed and in the chill out zone. This place is perfect if you want to relax, we had one of the best nights sleeps ever! Also our pets who are well behaved were made to feel welcome too which is very important to us. We've stayed at hotels which allow pets and have either had to compromise with sub standard rooms or had to pay an arm and a leg to accommodate them with us. This was not the case at the Worsley arms and we would be delighted to return.

Dear MaxMaxine

Thank you for your positive review. It was a pleasure to welcome you and your dogs to Hovingham, many of our regular guests have dogs and take advantage of the wonderful walks around the village.

There is nothing better than returning from a walk and being able to warm up in front of the fire with a glass of something reviving.

I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay, thank you for your kind words about the team.

We have just had a fabulous stay at the Worsley Arms. We had a deal but decided to upgrade and it was the best thing we did. We had a lovely cottage across from the Hotel. Very quiet and comfortable a real taste of luxury. We had breakfast included but had our evening meals there. The chef certainly knows how to combine flavours and has plenty of variety on the menu. The staff could not be more helpful. We particular liked the open fires especially as it was cool at nights. Congratulations to Tony and his staff for making our stay very memorable.

Room Tip: Rooms in the cottages.

Lovely Hotel. Food & Service excellent. Terrific value 2 night break. Couldn't have been a better location. Looking forward to our next booking at Worsley Arms. Thank you Tony, Sally and all the staff. Couldn't have made us feel more at home.

Beautiful relaxing Hotel with lots of comfortable lounge areas. 2 restaurants, both with excellent top quality cuisine.

They even arranged good weather for us and we were given the best room in the Hotel - the "Honeymoon Suite." with 4 poster bed. What more could you ask? Couldn't have been better.

Room Tip: Have only stayed in the Honeymoon Suite which of course is highly recommended

Dear HappyTraveller18

Thank you for your feedback. I was delighted to read your comments especially re the food, the team have been working so hard to create a menu to meet the many different requirements of our guests. By including old favourites such as shepherds pies and casseroles alongside some of the more sophisticated dishes on offer we do try to cover the spectrum of expectations.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Hovingham.

We stayed here for three nights on an Amazon North voucher.
We had a friendly welcome. We found all the staff friendly and helpful.
We had booked for dinner which we took in the dining room. There was a choice of dining in this room or in a less formal room. The food was superb. It was beautifully cooked and nicely presented. We ate there for all three nights but both the main and the specials menus remained the same. We enjoyed all the meals however I imagine I would want some change of menu if I had stayed longer.
There were 2 or 3 small sitting rooms and a bar where we took our coffee. They were all furnished in a sort of country faded elegance and were cosy and comfortable. Games and children's toys and newspapers were available.
Breakfast was also taken in the dining room and there was plenty of variety. The buffet held cereals, fruit, yoghurt, jams etc and fruit juices. There was a wide selection of cooked meals which were waiter served. These were well cooked however they were served on huge plates which were difficult to manage on the smaller tables.
We were given room 9 as I had asked for larger/longer bed when I booked. It was at the top of the main staircase (20+ steps). It was quite a large room but looked out onto the back car park and 2 skips of rubbish however the window was not the type where you would sit and relax and look out at the view as it was not so low so this did not really matter.
The storage was sufficient for 2 or 3 nights.
The bed was 2 singles linked together making it a super king size bed but unfortunately the bedding was only king size and the duvet did not reach the edges of the bed when we were in it. We spoke to the housekeeper about this the next day and she did not realise that you needed a super king size duvet for a 6 foot bed. However it was immediately replaced by 2 singles which was a lot better.
WiFi was available at £2 for 12 hours which was good.
The bathroom had a shower over the middle of the bath which gushed water from above so I definitely needed the shower cap provided. There was plenty of hot water but the shower curtain clung to your body and the shower controls stuck out a long way into bath just where you needed to stand so it was not particularly easy to take a shower. The bathroom door would not open fully as it caught on the lino so you had to squeeze past it. The cold water tap dripped. There were 2 shelves and a window sill on which to put your belongings.
There was a garden with tables and a wedding marquee. It would probably have been lovely in summer. I collected, with permission, a carrier bag full of windfall apples to take home which was a real bonus.
The area is lovely with pretty villages. York is easily accessable via the Park and Ride. There is plenty to see in the vicinity..
Did we enjoy our stay? Yes. Would we go there again? Yes.

Dear MGSRochdale

Thank you for your review, It was a pleasure to have you with us for your Autumn break, you were lucky with the weather, most of it anyway!

I am sorry about the skips but it is that time of year, and we have been upgrading bathrooms which will be to the benefit of future guests.

Your comments re the food are very pleasing as we recently reviewed our menu and introduced some new dishes, whilst keeping some of the more traditional ones on the special board.

We welcome all feedback, and there is much food for thought in you review, thank you again.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the Worsley Arms soon.

I stayed here again with my partner this time and we were allocated a double room in the main hotel. I love this hotel, the staff and also the food, which I have to say is almost beyond compare! The location of the hotel means that you are away from everything and have ultimate peace and quiet, whilst also still having easy and good access to all major tourist attractions!
We were made to feel very special and ALL the staff give exemplary service and are more than willing to accommodate any and all needs and wants and also are great to have a laugh with.
We took advantage of the games available and had a great game of Scrabble one evening and if we had so wanted could have borrowed DVDs to watch in our room or some of the many books available to borrow. I love the fact that they have DAB radios in the rooms and we didn't even think to turn on the TV. Wifi is available in the main hotel but mobile signal and reception is poor - my partner and I loved this as we are plagued by calls all day everyday due to our busy work lives and so this was an added bonus!
Breakfast is a wonderfully relaxed affair which makes you feel the need for either a very long walk or a sit down as it is so delicious you tend to overeat - Doreen's black pudding is to die for!
The dinner we had in the main reception was absolutely superb and my partner had plate envy - he wanted everything I had ordered but it was too delicious to let him have lots of my dishes! :-)
We will most definitely be returning again - thank you for a wonderful weekend.

I am delighted that your weekend with us was stress free and enjoyable, I remember the Scrabble game, still not sure some of those words were allowable, still you make you own rules!

The kitchen team work hard to satisfy our guests so thank you for your kind words.

My partner and I stayed for one night on a special offer through Groupon. Fantastic value for money. We stayed in one if the cottage rooms which was really cosy and had everything we needed. Lovely outlook across the green from the window. Breakfast was delicious in the morning. Only one gripe - the deal included a glass of prosseco and cake but we were not offered this at any point. However it didn't deter from a nice night away in a lovely part if Yorkshire.

Dear Gillianlynne

Thank you for your positive feedback, in today's market everyone is looking for value for money and you found it here! that is a great endorsement!! I am sorry if you missed out on the 'extras' all you had to do was ask, we have found that guests prefer them at different stages of their stay so they are available on demand, if that was not made clear then I apologise.
On the positive side these special offers introduce many new guests to us who return time and time again, hopefully you will now be joining them, complimentary cake and Prosecco will be awaiting you on your next visit.

Regards
