Stayed here overnight and thankfully there was a good breakfast which combined with the lovely scenic views to make up for how disappointed we both were.
We were in room 38 which is in the Manor House on the top floor. This has to be the smallest bedroom I have ever stayed in an a hotel. The bed was a double which isn't great as majority of hotels have king size beds usually. The radiator was on at full blast which combined with the small window being closed meant the room was like a sauna.
I opened the bedroom window which opened about 8inches, but this made no difference at all as to how stuffy the room was. This resulted in me sleeping on top of the bed as it was far too hot in the room. Actually I say sleeping, I meant ' trying to sleep' as I think I eventually managed to go to sleep about 5.30am.
We got up at 7.30 and once again the radiator was pumping out heat. Luckily I had managed not to crack my head on the low ceiling beams.
There's not room to swing a cat in the room we had ( you'd struggle to fit 2 adults and a cat in there ), you're constantly ducking your head or one of you has to sit on the bed to allow the other person to pass.

There's no phone in the room, so to find out how to operate the radiators etc you have to go down the 2 flights of stairs, down the short pathway, then across the 130 yards car park back to the pub to find the reception.

Bathroom;
As tempting as it is to call this an ensuite bathroom, it's a converted cupboard space. I'm well over 6ft tall and had to duck to use the toilet. The sink is so small your toothbrush would be able to sit across the sink. This must be the smallest bathroom I have ever seen, I've stayed in hotels where the walk in shower has been bigger than this ' bathroom'. It would be nice to have a bathroom where you can easily turn around and where you have a shelf to place your wash bag and not have to rest it on the toilet seat lid.

Breakfast;
This was the best part of our stay. A good selection of cereals, generous servings of tea & coffee. Toast made using ' proper' bread none of the cheap, pre sliced mass produced rubbish. The cooked breakfast was really good, with possibly the best black pudding I have ever had on a breakfast.

We were seated with the coal fire to one side of us ( this was lit and burning away ) and a scalding hot radiator to the other side, making this a very warm room. We overheard another couple who were saying they liked the place but not enough to return, which I think sums up our opinion.

It was a relief to get home to a decent sized walk in shower and our kingsize bed.

Many thanks for taking the time to review us. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay, however we would have appreciated your feedback on check out as you would have been asked if you enjoyed your stay.
The Manor House is NOT A HOTEL it is a bed and breakfast, guests have a choice at the time of booking where they wish to stay and we book them in where they have chosen ! We then send out a confirmation email which describes your room type and en-suite facilities. The email you received stated that your had booked a small double room with compact shower room, if you wished to upgrade or have a larger room type all you needed to do was ASK. Non of our rooms have double beds THEY ARE ALL KING SIZE OR SUPER KING ! you had a king bed in M38.
We ourselves are not aware of any bed and breakfasts that provide telephones in rooms.
Our heating is on 24/7, all our radiators are fully adjustable with a thermostatic control allowing guests to choose their preferred temperature.
When we purchased the Manor House 7 years ago non of the rooms were en-suite, at the expense of space in some of the rooms we had to create a shower room as that is what most guests expect. We feel we have decorated the rooms beautifully and provide all facilities a guest would require for a comfortable overnight stay.
We are glad you enjoyed your breakfast, we really pride ourselves on our food. Your waitress would have asked several times if everything was ok, if you wished to have the radiator turned down. the window opened or be moved to a different table then all you had to do was ASK !
Yours sincerely
Sarah, Vicky, Katy and Eleanor

Booked this via a Living Social voucher for one night. We were in the Manor House, behind the main hotel. Our room (36) was lovely. It overlooked the road side so we didn't have a river view. Nice and clean, nice decor, and extremely comfy king-size bed. Lovely touch of fresh coffee in room, and lovely Molton Brown products in bathroom. Slight issue - the old bay window had one that didn't shut totally flush with the frame so there was a noticeable draught. Also, the curtains were on a metal pole and there was a slight gap above them so light came in in the early morning - not a problem if you are an early riser but I'm not! That was a minor thing though. We ate in the bar and had a good meal. At breakfast we were seated in the front bar area with the other guests from the Manor House, while hotel guests were seated in a larger, nicer-looking room. Not sure why the discrimination in this way as it did make you feel like a second class citizen. Again, a minor gripe. Cooked breakfast was OK but I've had many better, and I didn't feel it was a very generous size. Good coffee and a large pot of it. Staff all very friendly.

Room Tip: If you want a river view you need to ask.

firstly many thanks for your time to review us, glad you enjoyed the Manor House room and dinner, with regards to breakfast, we do not always have enough room in the restaurant to seat everybody, so we do use the snug aswell, this is a cosy area with a log burner and is popular with most guests, we do not seat the Manor House guests exclusively in here, we always try to change things around, we are very sorry you weren't happy with this and had we known you preferred the restaurant we could have moved you. Our aim is to make our guests stay as pleasant as possible and we will always try to help if there is a problem.
We hope to see yoiu again
Kind regards

Absolutely stunning location, we stayed in the Manor the room was superb, exceeding our expectations, this was a midweek visit, we arrived early on the day and because it was quite the reception staff let us check in early, even though we said we are fine to wait ( we popped in courteously because we had parked in the car park )

All the staff were professional and made us feel welcome, our room was very spacious the toiletries were a nice touch and the bed was very comfy, the Mrs loved the Teddy and I loved the Timothy Taylor beer, breakfast was lovely and plentiful although bacon was a bit tough.

Even a couple of our friends are staying there later in March, we've told them it will be excellent.

Well done on the excellent service, we will be staying again at some point.

Room Tip: All the Staff here are very friendly, we didn't encounter any problems but if we had we just knew all you had to do was say something, and it would be sorted.

We visited for an off peak one night brieak on a Monday night. The reception was pleasent and the staff during our stay were friendly, particularly our waitress over dinner. we were alocated a room in the separate Manor House the furhtest away from the main hotel as they could have allocated us. The room was fine and clean, if not a little compact, and a strange allocation given the hotel was so quiet. The hotel being quiet was not so unusual given the early week and time of year. I can imagine what a fab location this must be in the summer months by the river in this quaint Yorkshire village. Well worth a visit.

Many thanks for taking the time to review us. Its great to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that our staff took good care of you, we will pass on the positive feedback to everyone involved. The reason that we wont have upgraded you to The Lion even though we were quiet is that you were probably on one of our great midweek discounted deals. We always let everyone know when booking where they are staying and this is also confirmed in our booking confirmation.
Should you wish to return to us again then you can always request your accommodation preference.
kindest regards

A beautiful old 16th century hotel set in amazing surroundings. I can not express the beauty of this place and location and what a wonderful chilled out two days we had here. It really is like being in a different world.
The staff were lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the bar in the evening, again attentive service. Beer was good as was the food, we had the rib eye steak. However just one small gripe...frozen chips. ( please do real ones)
Lovely touches in the room, the Molton Brown toiletries and the gorgeous teddy bear. I am hoping to return soon as this place is a hidden gem.

Thank you so much for writing such a great review. We are located in such a wonderful part of the world, the scenery and landscape are just fantastic, its good to be able to share it with you !
All your lovely comments have been passed onto everyone involved, its always good to know we are getting it right !
Re the chips, THEY ARE HOMEMADE ! We have owned The Lion for 22 years and have never ever served a frozen chip ! Our potatoes come from our local veg supplier in Skipton, we peel them, chip them and fry them all in house. Everything we put on our plates is made in house with love and care.
Hope to be able to welcome you back to The Lion for another great stay
kindest regards
