arriving at what appeared to be a very dated service station motel my expectations were low . However once inside I couldnt find issue with anything . The staff were helpful and willing , the room was good and the bed was very comfortable ( I think that we had a refurbished executive room )

The breakfast was good and the whole experience was very good value at £74 for two B+B

Will definetely stay here again

I stayed here on Thursday night. When you arrive, it looks rather run down. It's next to a lorry park, petrol station and Macdonalds. Go round the back and there is residents parking which feels much safer than the bigger carpark at the front. There is a decent restaurant and bar on site. There is also a shop which looks as if it sells many goodies. We left early in the morning, so didn't have a chance to go in. There is also an HSBC machine, so you don't have to pay for withdrawing cash at the petrol station.
The staff were pleasant both at the bar and reception. The room was old fashioned but clean. The bed was quite comfortable. The room was a bit on the warm side, so I left the windows open all night.
Breakfast was very nice. All the usual cooked things with a choice of eggs, cereal, juice, fruit, tea and coffee.
For £55, you really can't get much better. Bed, breakfast, dogs allowed at NO extra charge, on site restaurant, handy for motorway......yup, I'd go back!

I needed a hotel by the A1 for an overnight stay on my journey to Durham. This hotel is within a few hundred yards of Junction 51 on the A1(M) at Leeming services. It is very much in the style of Travelodge or Premier Inn. The room was clean and comfortable. Apparently some rooms have been refurbished. The room we had was not. The decorations were tired and the bed and mattress were noisy and in need of replacement. Breakfast was good. The bar and the dining room are decorated in an unusual but attractive style. Staff were helpful. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.

We used to live in Northallerton so already knew of The Lodge at Leeming Bar though had never previously stayed there. We chose this motel - yes it is a bit reminiscent of Cross Roads for those who remember that programme - for its convenience, combining a trip to Chester-le-Street for the cricket and catching up with friends in the area. Its location was perfect for our requirements as was the cost of our two night stay. The room was clean and completely adequate though the bathroom was a bit disappointing and the hotel is showing its age. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was included in the cost of our stay and, for those who might like to tuck into a full English before tackling the Yorkshire Dales and Moors, was plentiful. The following facilities are also available on this site: gift shop, tourist information office, petrol station, supermarket and McDonalds. Overall, I would recommend The Lodge as a stopover for a visit to North Yorkshire and County Durham as it is ideally placed for both as it is adjacent to the A1. In my opinion, it provided good value for money for our requirements.

Room Tip: Our double room, though overlooking the car park and within distance of the A1 was really quiet and...

Where to begin? What was supposed to be a cheap(ish) and cheerful stay turned out to be much more EXPENSIVE and UPSETTING than anticipated.

The hotel staff were the only thing good I can say about this place is that the staff were fairly friendly and polite. The hotel is extremely dated, with uneven flooring and yellowing corridors, you kinda feel like you're on an old ship(?!) The room itself was cold and had dirty windows and the carpet needed a good clean (ominous brown stain), with a valentines card left in the bedside (in MAY). The heating and air in the room was controlled by an extremely noisy unit on the wall - unfortunately no middle ground was reachable, it was either chilly and quiet or sweltering and noisy. The bed was relatively clean and fresh and the bathroom was pleasant enough and generally clean (however it was clearly not re-cleaned when the room was supposedly serviced during our stay).

The included breakfast buffet was, on first glance, better than expected, however the quality of many items (particularly the hot food) was definitely lacking and rather greasy. The dining room was a very odd decor of dated murals and small, wobbly tables.

Here's the real kicker, on the morning of our departure we returned to our vehicle - which was in a hotel-labelled car parking area - to find that TWO of our tyres were completely flat on one side of the car, on closer inspection you could actually see the KNIFE MARKs where they had been stabbed. A call to the RAC and a wait for the callout confirmed this, our car then had to be towed to the nearest town and a lovely bill for two new tyres, plus rebalancing had to be paid in order for us to get home, bye bye an additional £120+!!

All in all, possibly my WORST hotel stay to date, and a very UNHAPPY and DISAPPOINTING end to what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend.

We were attending a wedding and decided to stay a few more nights to make the most of being away from home. The hotel itself is a little dated, but you definitely get your moneys worth. It is clean and well located for both the moors and the dales. Yes, it is next to a motorway, but you honestly couldn't tell that when you were in the hotel itself. The staff were great- and even allowed us to use our room before check in to get ready for the wedding. Breakfast was standard buffet and full breakfast style and we had no real issues. Would recommend for a cheap base. If you are looking for something more stylish then there are plenty of b&bs nearby, but they are more expensive. Here, you definitely get value for money.
