Visiting Friends in the area so need somewhere handy. The Lodge is just of the Main A1,though no signs to say left or right after getting off A1 Unfortunately I went right inside of left.Wrong.
Yes the place is showing signs of passed it sell by date.Definitely needs a update. ( did hear it has just got new owners so may improve,) Our room 2nd floor RM 19 was OK But wow the Bathroom needs a overhaul. The bed was comfortable and clean sheets.,The only noise was people going to McDonald's at the back. The staff were very friendly and in the breakfast room worked hard. The Breakfast was a open buffet style, very good plenty to eat. Good for a centre to visit many places in the Dales,York the Lakes etc. Good price if booking by Internet.

Convenient. Friendly staff. Clean and comfy rooms. Lots of choices where to eat on site. Were allowed to park motorbike at front entrance rather than in car park to rear of hotel. Our room had no problems, windows worked fine. The breakfast room was clean and it was help yourself but there was lots there. The food in cafe was of excellent standard and priced competitively, Yes it looked a bit dull on outside but this did not detract from a great stay

Room Tip: All rooms were good

We booked an over night stay at the Lodge on our way to Slaley Hall, this is a 2 star hotel with a quirky layout. Our room was clean and functional but the toilet door had no lock and failed to close properly the one window that opened only had one handle that worked and would not close properly so all night you heard the traffic racing by on the A1 M. The two beds were well worn with springs that kept moving during the night. On the plus side the staff were friendly and the food in the resturant was adequate. In the morning we informed the staff that the toilet door didnt locked to be told they had known for several days ???. So if you don't mind a poor nights sleep and some 1970's decor the Lodge is fine.

The lodge looks good from the photographs but it hides the lack of attention to maintenance
The public areas are very tired and worn.
Hint of the 70s .
The room has been updated round the beds but it still has old electrics and to make a cuppa you had to switch the TV off to use the plug
Our bathroom door was broken and the wood across a central section was split and make closing the door near impossible.

Good bed and a good breakfast and ideal location for the sales is let down by the overall decor
As I said SAD

Used a Living Social voucher for a weekend away with my mum, sister and auntie and was quite disappointed when we drove up to the hotel. We hadn't appreciated it was right next to the A1! We parked round the back and had to walk past a collapsing greenhouse with broken panes, and external peeling paint, so first impressions weren't good. However, the reception staff were very friendly, the rooms clean and modern, the bar meals delicious & reasonably priced, service was good. In the morning the breakfast was really good and a nice range of things to eat. We all slept well despite being near the A1. All in all it was an enjoyable experience but could do with a bit of TLC outside.
