I rang the bell on reception five times, no one came. I had to ask the girl behind the bar to find someone. Breakfast that you must pay for in with the room, is only served between 8.30 and 9.00. We came down at 8.15 and were promptly chased back upstairs by a female Basil Fawlty. " You can't come down at this time, can't you see we are still hovering ". You are given a room key on the end of a foot long plastic tag, rather like a huge shoe horn. This has to be handed in if you step outside the door.
The attitude of the management is that you can like it or lump it. The wi-fi didn't work. The Italian girl behind the bar is "Polly" and her cheerful personality was the only redeeming feature of a joke of a hotel.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Welcome to our traditional local pub and hotel. We have become world famous by sheer accident but for the very reasons Yorkshire Television chose us we like to think that the very best of an English village pub has been delivered to an international audience. Our belief is that many come because of the fictional Aidensfield but return for the spirit that is Goathland. Essentially we offer the convenience of a small hotel but with a big personality. The hotel has eight en-suite bedrooms; they all have individual characteristics and views of our wonderful moors and timeless village. Our rooms reflect the traditional building and retain all the charm and character of yesteryear. The rooms are all fully equipped with 32" LCD Televisions with Freeview, Tea, Coffee and Hot Chocolate making facilities and of course all fresh white linens. ... more less
