We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of May, in unexpectedly good weather. We arrived quite late in the day, but were warmly welcomed with tea, cakes and recommendations for dinner. The rooms are all very clean, nicely decorated and of the two I saw, with nice modern bathrooms. There's also a lovely large lounge, stocked with books, games and dvds should you decide on a night in, over a short walk to the pub.

Breakfast was very good (full english—or your choice of it's constituent parts—fruit, cereal, toast...), and served in a room with a wonderful view. We were lucky enough to be sitting right by the window so watched the sheep wandering past and the lambs trying to tackle the cattle grid. Always the last to leave breakfast, we were never rushed, and Kelly, Liz and Keith were really happy to chat and advise us on our days plans.

The location is fantastic - very easy to go for good walks, or a short drive to the sea.

In short, the good Trip Advisor reviews are all correct! The house was lovely, as was the location, the staff and the breakfasts. Would go back in an instant!

We recently spent two nights at this excellent guest house. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. The house was spotlessly clean and our front room was a good size with magnificent views out across the Common. The free roaming sheep were entertaining and added charm to the settling. Breakfast was first class with nice extras. Kelly recommended a nearby hotel for evening meals. They were excellent bar meals. The restaurant menu looked interesting and substantial. Goathland itself is ideally situated for exploring the North Yorks. Moors. The Fairhaven certainly deserves the TripAdvisor award that is placed at the entrance to the house!

Room Tip: Front room facing the Common.

There's nothing I can add to what everyone has already said about this lovely guest house. Such attention to detail. We left feeling that we had met new friends with handshakes and hugs from the family. It's all very special and we can't wait to visit again.Thank you Fairhaven family!

Room Tip: We were quite late booking and do prefer a bath but only rooms with showers left. Wasn't a probl...

We spent 4 nights here in mid February. What a wonderful hotel, in an ideal area for country walks. The owners were so attentive to our needs, the home made cakes were lovely!! The hotel is spotlessly clean with nice spacious bedrooms. There was an excellent selection for breakfast.

Great value evening meals can be found at the Mallyan Hotel about 7 mins walk from "Fairhaven"

Spend a few nights here .....you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Most rooms have been refurbished so all rooms should be of a high standard.

I now always check Tripadvisor before staying anywhere and it is not hard to see why Fairhaven has no less than 50 excellent reviews and no negative ones!

Myself and my girlfriend arrived around 4pm on the last Saturday in February and on arrival Keith came and met us by the car and carried a bag in for us, before showing us up to our room (Room 1 - a double en suite - picture attached) and then inviting us down for a coffee in the guest lounge. As we entered the guest lounge and sat down the first thing you notice is the breathtaking view out of the window across the valley. It wouldn't do it justice to upload a picture and you really need to see it to appreciate it. Coffee was served and some absolutely delicious home made flapjack and scones were also on offer at no charge and a friendly chat with Keith about the walking we'd all done and exchanged a few stories. Shortly afterwards we met Liz and Kelly who asked what time we would like dinner. We had chosen to take advantage of the last weekend of the "Winter Warmer" deal where a two course evening meal was thrown in on the night of arrival. I had emailed before hand (all emails were answered very promptly) to ask if we could eat early so we could get into Whitby to do the ghost walk at 8pm and there was no problems at all with that so we ate at 6pm. We both had steak and ale pie with veg and potatoes and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. It was delicious! Infinitely nicer than any pub grub we would have found in Whitby before the ghost walk! The guest house is also licenced and my girlfriend had wine while I had a pint of the local Black Sheep ale.

The breakfast is ordered by ticking a couple of boxes on a form and leaving it on the table in the entrance hall the night before. There are also specials which changed the two days we were there, eg smoked salmon and eggs, or home made breakfast scones. I stuck with my old favourite of a full english breakfast to set me up for the day. Delicious! Also on offer, fresh fruit, cereals, toast, juice, coffee and tea.

The room itself was lovely. Nicely decorated, spacious, warm, immaculately clean and the en suite was spotless too (I am reliably informed all the bathrooms have recently been refurbished!). The bed was very comfortable and we both slept soundly two nights running and ended the weekend feeling totally relaxed. Also a large window that can be opened wide in the summer months to keep you cool (something I always look for!) There are tea (fruit and normal), coffee and hot chocolate facilities in the room, which prompted me getting kicked out of bed in the morning to make one before breakfast...also a TV with the usual freeview channels on it, although we only used it for about an hour in the whole time we were there as there is so much locally to see and do.

Overall, a perfect little getaway for us in a lovely guest house with excellent friendly owners who couldn't do enough to make sure we were happy, comfortable and enjoying our stay. Would love to visit again sometime.

Thanks very much everyone, couldn't improve on a thing!
Jim and Gemma

We stayed for a couple of nights and were more than happy with the experience. Warm and friendly environment and a hearty English breakfast. A short walk from ‘Aidensfield’ centre so you can just park up and not worry about driving. For a small village there is plenty to see and do.

We have never felt qualified to review any Guest House before having never returned to any others for a second visit, but after returning from our tenth or so visit to the Fairhaven, I think we are qualified! Plus the fact we are now "regulars" speaks volumes. You will not be met by more genuine and friendly hosts than Kelly, Liz and Keith, their hospitality should set the benchmark others aspire to, it is obvious they love the Fairhaven and love to welcome their guests. The rooms are second to none - spotless, comfy, well decorated and relaxing. The breakfasts are spot on - and believe me this is a speciality area of mine!!! Relaxing in the lounge in front of the log fire on a cold winters evening is to be highly recommended. All the little touches that the "team" do from the welcoming coffee and cakes to drying your walking boots to giving you tips for visits and eateries, make a massive difference.
Try the Fairhaven and you will return - it's as simlpe as that
Nearly forgot - all this in a wonderful village setting that is tranquil and picture postcard perfect
