“Same great wrap around service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014

Stayed here for three nights and just got back today the 21st August. We've been before, I just wish we had the finances and time to come more often. It really is in our view a haven with so little to fault, Nice to see so may of the same staff still there and Peter White the General Manager was especially kind and we were made to feel as if we were the only guests with the time he seemed to have to talk and take an interest in our plans. The Spa is first rate and even more as we were staying midweek and it was relatively quiet. It's true that Lucknam Park is not inexpensive but then I suppose that's not what its about, such a beautiful property with so many staff to attend to your every need comes at a cost, but for a once in a while luxury break we are happy to pay. We had dinner in The Park restaurant a couple of nights, phenomenal!

Room Tip: It's worth paying a little more to not have a standard room. If you are taking a child and havin...

We stayed in a room in the main house overlooking the lavender garden, and whilst the room looks reasonable the bathroom certainly was not. Very dated with mouldy grout round the shower, an obviously broken toilet roll holder, wobbly magnifying mirror and worst of all I suspect a sash window that does not close. I can't imagine what it must be like in winter. Not what l was expecting for such an expensive room. Overall I think the hotel looks beautiful but I have stayed in more luxurious places which had much lower room rates.

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms have recently been refurbished to a very high standard.

It is a beautiful hotel. Our rooms were large, very quiet. The staff was attentive and eager to make our stay pleasant. The spa area was very relaxing and rather large for the size of the hotel. Our rating would almost have been 5 star. The gourmet diner was good but by far not as good as in other high rated restaurants. The great atmosphere and service did of course compensate to a certain level. The hotel should also buy some new bicycles. The ones they have simply don't fit the quality requirement for a hotel in this category. Anyway, we enjoyed our stay and hope to be back soon.

From the moment the gates to the entrance open, you are just transported in time and luxury. The long tree-lined drive was magical and then the house appeared like magic in front of us - every bit as stately and grand as the picture shows.

Staff are all very friendly and helpful - when my husband phoned to book, they offered advice the special offer basic double might be a bit too small for the length of time we were staying and instead offered an alternative package for our break. Our room was in the main house and had everything we needed, although I understand that they are planning some redecorations at some point in time?

We ate breakfast each morning in the main restaurant and had wonderfully attentive staff, including a young (Spanish?) waiter who noticed me from the other side of the room inspecting my omelette and was immediately by my side confirming it was probably not to my liking and he'd have it re-made! Similarly in the brasserie adjoining the spa, the head waiter was extremely attentive - we'd mooched past the brasserie in the morning and couldn't/didn't want to make a commitment to dinner that evening, even when he explained that the brasserie was going to be very busy he couldn't convince us to make a commitment! Yet when we showed up that evening, he'd had the forethought to make our reservation for us so that we were greeted and seated! I'd like to thank these guys more personally, but no one wears name badges.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and used the pool, but not the spa or the equestrian centre. We'll definately come back again, but if we are uber critical, we always use Gidleigh in Devon as our awesome benchmark and this place comes close....

The doorman was also lovely and helped us with golfing suggestions - the course at nearby Castle Coombe is a real treat....what else can I say? Wonderfully relaxing.

Room Tip: Ask the reservation team!

My wife and I stayed one night and enjoyed the Michelin starred restaurant and beautiful spa.
From the moment we arrived the staff did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. Despite opting for the most basic double room we found it spacious and well appointed.

Dinner was the memorable experience you'd expect from a Michelin level restaurant but friendly rather than at all stuffy.

After a great nights sleep we made use of the spa which was of fantastic quality and virtually empty on a Saturday morning.

This was the best romantic night away we've had and the hotel looked well set up for families with children too.

Highly recommended, it's not cheap but worth every penny.

A very pleasant hotel with some fantastic staff. I recently had a back operation so we chose to stay here so I could use the pool to help recuperation.
Food was fantastic and we are already planning a return visit.

This was our fifth visit to Lucknam Park and yet again we were pampered and waited on hand and foot. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the frankly splendid staff. From the moment you step in through the front door to when you leave you never want for anything. The team at Lucknam aim to give you the best time possible and after five visits they have never disappointed. They are a real credit to this five star hotel and you won't be disappointed.
And then there is the wonderful food. There are two restaurants and the Michelin starred one is really special, and set under a blue sky fresco it is wonderful. Breakfast is also lovely too and certainly worth waking up for.
The spa is excellent with a very nice heated outdoor (small) pool and there is a large indoor pool with a good sized gym which is open till late.
The house itself is set in very peaceful surroundings and we have often gone for a ride as there are stables on site. There are also free bicycles to use and one of them has a children's wagon which our kids love to sit in and be pulled around like the Lord and Lady of the manor.
In summary, if we want to guarantee ourselves an amazing stay then we always choose Lucknam.
