The Strawberry Bank Hotel & Restaurant
Ranked #2 of 3 Hotels in Meriden
Reviewed 13 August 2013

We booked the Strawberry Bank Hotel as we were visiting for a friend’s 40th surprise birthday. On arrival the receptionist was nice and accommodating. The room was nice enough, however the cleanliness was poor, spider webs in every corner and a little dated. However the room was large enough and laid out well. The bathroom was fine and the shower was mega powerful, which was great! We were told on arrival that the bar would be open from 1830 -0100, as a group we decided to head back early from our venue so we could all have a quiet drink in the hotel and catch up. This was not possible due to the rude porter refusing to open the bar at 2300. Only to sit behind reception on his computer. Very poor service. All 14 guests felt this was unacceptable! A real shame as we could have stayed at the other venue longer. Don’t advertise the bar if you are not going to open it. The breakfast was ok, nothing special. We were told to by the waitress in the morning to sit wherever as she never arranged tables for us? We were not expecting to all sit together so no reason to be rude. Would unfortunately not recommend the hotel or stay again, which is a shame as we will thought the town was lovely. We will seek an alternative! I must say the hotel was set in a great location and with a much required update could have potential...

An overnight stay to attend a family celebration (B & B only). Nice welcome at reception. A little dated but, for one night was comfortable. Our room was fairly clean, of a resonable size, warm and had a very comfortable double bed. Breakfast was resonable a good choice and the hot food was hot.
A little TLC is necessary all round. However,Good size Car Park and lovely grounds.

Classic b&b with some good stuff (gardens, position, tranquillity, breakfast) and some less good (needs refurbishment, not clean enough). Average. Good for a night or two while going at the NEC or Coventry. Birmingham is a bit farer.

nice large size room but we did pay for a family of 4. very dated decor and fittings and not the cleanest. lots of noise from other rooms but they were full. reception at check in was good but no late bar. breakfast was ok with plenty of hot food and good service. we had friends who stayed in a double room with a z-bed for their little girl, they paid extra but were short on space.

Room Tip: the family suite was very large, worth the extra paid.

I was a little worriedafter reading some of the reviews having booked this hotel to stop over whilst attending LG Arena, however my fears were soon banished, the welcome at reception was warm and friendly and a cab booked to take us out in the evening within minutes of arrival. Our room was well furnished, yes not a flat screen TV but does that really matter? the bathroom was clean with plenty of towels/bath mat, toilet rolls etc, yes the suite was avocado but again does that really matter? The wardrobe was a good size the bed comfortable the linen clean and white, two nice chairs for sitting a dressing table stool, we had tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, sugar, biscuits, mints and chocs. all in all well provisioned. We wanted to eat before we went out for the night and were directed to the local pub for a lovely meal as they didnt serve food until 7pm. What we saw of the grounds looked beautiful and parking was plentiful. Breakfast was buffet style with tinned fruit, fruit juices, yoghurt, cerial, rolls, croissant/pain au chocolat, cold meat and cheese, plus all the makings of a full english (I saw someone with boiled eggs as well so they must be flexible with requests),tea coffee toast was made fresh to order, again staff were friendly. Oh night porter on duty who served drinks from the bar, very reasonably priced as well. I would definately stay here if I was going to an event again or for the airport. From a safety point of view plenty of fire doors. Oh and reception area clean and tidy as well. Its not a luxury hotel but does not pretend to be, it is clean comfortable friendly excellent value for money thank you all for a pleasent stay

Room Tip: we had room 308

Tired, dated hotel, needs total revamp! My room had large stain on carpet and I think all the dust monsters were lurking on top of the wardrobe as I discovered when the hairdryer disturbed them all, shocking to say the least! Room never vacuumed in a 10 night stay, pretty poor. Cold water one morning, not what I want when doing a trade fair at NEC. Breakfast very average, tinned fruit
not fresh, full english, eggs however you wanted and that was it, no other choices.
Only good thing was the reception staff who are really nice and even collected a prescription for me, very thoughtful. Will I be back, not if we find somewhere else to stay for NEC!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else! Or as for upstairs room otherwise you here everything.

We got a good price on a snowy night so very happy with value. It was clean and warm but is in need of some upgrading and improving. Staff were friendly and breakfast was absolutely fine. So at the price we paid quite happy-would have been very miffed if asked to pay the rack rate.
Very handy for NEC and a good pub opposite for a beer and bite.
There is some repaiting going on so hopefully this is part of a larger programme of work
