We enjoyed this property & it will be even better when the restaurant is finished although there was a little mobile catering van. Very interesting.

“Great house and garden but extras a bit lacking”
Reviewed 29 July 2011

This is a really interesting house to visit, in that it is a 20th century interpretation of a tudor manor, remodelled at a time when many similar estates were in decline. The room about Graham Baron Ash(son of wealthy industrialist) was interesting too. He created a 'tudor hall' to link two parts of the building with a sprung oak floor for dancing. The yew topiary is amazing - made me think of alice in wonderland. They are trying to reinstate a kitchen garden based on a tudor design and its interesting to see the different methods of scaring birds in there - a suspended potato studded with feathers is a new one on me! The shop is tiny and the refreshments come from a van. I usually think NT are good at eeking extra pounds from visitors(the exit is usually through the shop!) so turning some of the outbuildings into commercial use would make sense to me. Its in a fairly isolated spot and although members like us could pop into Baddesley Clinton(2 miles down road) for a cuppa/some lunch its not really an option for non-members unless they want to visit too.

“How not to win customers by the National Trust”
Reviewed 6 July 2011

Turned up yesterday (5th July) intending to tie in a visit here and to Baddesley Manor, but oh no, this house was shut for two days to allow the BBC to film.
As usual no advance notice on the road to advise you. So we (and many others) arrived at the car park to be told by a very patronising lady that the place was shut. All she could manage to keep saying when I complained about the lack of advance notice was 'Oh, bless' and then proceeded to sell Nat Trust membership!
Yes, their website does say it was shut which I found out by speaking to our daughter at home later that evening, but - hey - we are on holiday and don't have internet access immediately available. The trip was planned 'on the hoof' so to speak.

Really, really annoyed at this waste of time and FUEL!! A notice at Baddesley 2 miles up the road would have been REALLY helpful.

“Exquisite”
Reviewed 13 May 2011

One of the most beautiful house and garden combinations I have visited.
The house is a 20th century reimagining of an Elizabethan house.
Worth a visit.
