It wasn't until we were inside Packwood and learned something of its history that we realised that all was not what it seemed! To all intents and purposes it appears to be a Tudor manor house, but the talk given by one of the volunteers tells a different story. I will say no more so as not to spoil the element of surprise but it does go to show that with money and plenty of leisure time you can buy anything... The gardens are highly recommended and the rather damp gardener on duty when we went was happily braving the weather and happy to talk about the plants and their preferences. The new restaurant has a more limited hot food selection than we expected and was slightly smaller too, though it should be said we visited during half term so many children were there. The usual fare at the NT shop, high quality and unusual of course. Certainly Packwood is worthy of a visit.
