Packwood is a must for everyone the house is interesting on how the owners had attempted to recreate the home as it once was. However what really did it for us was the garden just stunning the amount of colour is amazing and not to be missed

“Not to be missed”

What a wonderful surprise - hadn't heard about the house and gardens before but if in the area you MUST visit. The gardens are worth a visit even if you don't have time to go round the house.

“Would return”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Having been to Baddesley Clinton this morning still with our caravan and dog in tow we arrived. The car park is pretty big and we managed to find somewhere to park. We entered and expected to be turned away because of "The Dog" We wern't, we were told where we could sit (two areas) and visited the house independently while the other dog sat in the sun. (the member of staff also came to tell me where the dog bowl was)
The house is a lovely old building and many people have already given descriptions much better than I ever would.
I would just like to say that all staff were very informative and welcoming. When I spoke about the sweet peas in one of the rooms she told me about the flowers. Great that they are still putting them there even though they no longer have to.
I visited the kitchen garden and thought how lovely it was
All dog owners should visit for lunch or coffee. we only had drinks but the people on the next table made a lot of posative comments about the different dishes they were having. Made me wish we hadn't had the sandwich earlier.

“Delightful property with superb gardens & excellent volunteers...”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Not having been to Packwood House for some years, it was a pleasure to enter via the ‘New Build’ which contains the greeters, the café and one of the shops. It is a splendid addition to the facilities and the volunteers there told us that it’d had a big difference to visitor numbers this season. Well done, National Trust, for this valuable addition to this charming house. On this visit, we felt that all the greeters and the room volunteers proved to be a credit to the management team here. Welcoming, helpful and conversational when appropriate, they certainly added to the overall experience.

The house is small in NT terms but beautifully kept and reflects the exquisite taste of its last owner. The original house was sensitively extended under him and judiciously furnished with appropriate fixtures and fittings. Whereas the house is always a joy, it is the impeccably kept gardens at the height of summer which makes the visit so worthwhile. The clever planting schemes are a riot of colour and, when coupled with the vistas, are testament to the landscape gardeners’ and plantsmen’s skill.

The attached photos only give a small indication of what you have to see at this time of year. What we thought was very special this time were the quotes from letters and other writings about Graham Baron Ash which adds to the intimacy of the house and also give valuable insights into his character and the social circles in which he moved. The quotes appeared on napkins, rugs and cushions etc. so do look for them. This is an innovative idea which would be worth extending over similar houses in the NT stable which have come directly from enlightened families like Wightwick Manor. A small addition to the character of Packwood House on our visit was the arrival of several Morgan sports cars which adorned the area behind the house.

N.B. If you are not aware, Baddesley Clinton is only a few minutes away and both properties are easily visited on one trip to the area.

P.S. A slightly negative point was that the café couldn’t cope with numbers at lunch. Fortunately we managed to get in just before the rush. Alas, for the price, the sausage and bacon sandwiches were disappointing. Both the bacon and the sausage were slightly overcooked and the presentation was very basic. Come on… Just a little salad garnish would have improved the appearance massively. It seems penny-pinching and not the standard of some of the other NT properties such as Hardwick Hall.

“If you like gardens....this is for you”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

You're likely to combine this visit with Baddesley Clinton 2 miles down the lane. If so decide whether you are a house or a garden person. If the former come here to begin with and then go to BC. Why? Because Packwood is about it's fantastic varied gardens. Yes the house is almost as old as BC but it's been changed alot over the years and not always for the better. From the garden you can see a huge 2nd floor which isn't open to the public. Offices or just unfurnished?BC also has a more homely feel with lots of appropriate furniture and other contents. Some of Packwood's rooms feel a bit empty.

Yes, this place is about the gardens and there are several ,each with a different theme.

There's an excellent new cafe. Try the cream tea.You won't be disappointed.
