“A really good value friendly hotel - the george!”

I would recommend this hotel! Staff are really friendly, the rooms are comfortable and the rates are cheap!

I stayed her for one night on business, it was pretty much perfect for my needs. No hassle, check in was easy enough and the staff were really helpful. Some good restaurants around the hotel. I would recommend the indian over the road, £7 for a three course meal!

The hotel has character, its a charming little place. I wouldnt hesitate to stay her again. Especially when you consider the alternatives!

Cheap and cheerful!

Thanks.

Stayed at The George and all I can say is the Staff are top class ! Ive stayed in many Hotels some rated the "best" .
The staff in this hotel are the "best" I have come across. It is a very friendly relaxed hotel .I would recommed if you are staying in stoke or going to a concert at the Theatre a few doors down .It is child friendly .The breakfast was great . The bar serves food . Unfortunatly during our stay my child took very ill due to a virus and had to be rushed into hospital by ambulance and the staff were very helpful they bent over backwards to help us .In most hotels you have to ask more than once for anything or have a long wait not The George .The staff genuinely care about their clientele in this hotel ! Though it was a terrible time due to my child being ill the hotel staff at The George made it easier .

after staying at the hotel in october this year, we felt we had to write a review, we were worried about staying after reading the reviews, but it is now obvious that whoever wote the negative reviews were either trying to get a freebie or generally very difficult to please. after being checked in by the friendly receptionist we went to our room it was traditional and nicley furnished, very clean and warm, - (the hotel also have a spa!!! but we didn't have time to go, but looked fab.)
we had a fabulous meal and were impressed by the service and quality of food, it was excellent, with the lovley chandeliers and charm of an old building, you can't help but think of the history there.
whilst we were in the lounge there was a party in the ballroom for halloween to raise money for cancer research, with all the staff dressed up it was a fabulous atmosphere, so a big well done to them all, we would just like to say we had a lovley time, the food was excellent, bedroom cosy and a fabulous bunch of staff, so thank you, we will certainly be coming back.

We were made to feel very welcome at The George - we celebrated our Wedding Anniversary there in the ballroom after renewing our Wedding vows at a local church and were treated in a professional and caring manner - the food was lovely and commented on favourably by our guests - we stayed ovenight and they were kind enough to provide fresh flowers and fruit in our room and nothing was too much trouble for them - breakfast was lovely, a great full english and the usual cereals, etc. The hotel room was dated but very clean - you have to remember that this is a very old hotel and this shows in its lovely character - we've stayed at some really beautiful, luxurious hotels ( New York's Waldorf Astoria to name one, we're used to the best) but we felt very comfortable here and would stay again - we wish to thank the staff for going the 'extra mile' for us and want to let the owner know that despite the fact that the hotel needs some cash spending on it, please don't alter the staff; they're worth their weight in gold!
Thank you from us both xxx

A memorial group of 20 ex servicemen & their wives arrived at the hotel after long journeys to be met in a professional & very friendly manner. We found all the staff to be friendly well above what one might expect. The Manager bent herself to every whim of ours & the chef was fantastic as was the food. Rooms are old as one would expect inn an old hotel but the rooms were clean & tidy with all facilities working well. On our 2nd day there we held a memorial dinner with over 40 guests, the staff were brilliant, again food was very tasty & plentiful, the chef excelled. I cannot over praise this lovely bunch of folk we had a brilliant friendly stay & would stop there time and again, well done the George Hotel.

After my bad experience in the "Quality Inn" the previous week, I spent two nights at The George Hotel. The hotel is a smart building in a rundown area, and inside, the public areas still maintain some original elegance.
The staff ae friendly and try to be helpful, but are not always competent.
My room was small but adequate. I'd asked for a room with a bath, so was disappointed to be given a room with only a shower. The room had an old analogue TV with just channels 1-5.
On my first night, I went for a drink in the bar which was very quiet. There was no real ale and the bar person told me that the pipes were being cleaned.
I dined in the restaurant - it's emptiness should have set alarm bells ringing. The menu looked good value at £15.95 for three courses. The service was good, but the food was not good - the 'beef medallions' were just huge slabs of meat obviously cut from a previously cooked joint.
Breakfast on the first morning was good - and good value (£8 reduced to £4) as part of the booking deal.
When I returned in the evening, I went to the bar for a drink and there was still no real ale, and the bar maid was embarassed when I mentioned how long it was taking to clean the pipes. I ordered a gin and tonic and was served a gin and soda.
Breakfast on the second morning was hilarious. The waiter announced to all, without a hint of embarassment, that there were no eggs available at breakfast as a shelf in the fridge had collapsed crushing all the eggs. He then added (to much amusement) that that they could do scambled eggs!
My checkout was quick and easy and I went on my way.

I booked a room over the phone in this hotel, when I booked I was not made aware of the standard 48hr cancellation period by the girl I spoke to. The day I was due to travel the meeting I was attending was cancelled so I called to cancel the room. What a surprise they would not cancel the room and insisted I paid the rate for the room. The girl I spoke to was most obstructive and told me that the owner, the manager and the duty manger were not on duty. I requested the manager speak to me but yet another surprise he refused to speak to me about the mis-sold booking I had made. I decided as my meeting for the following 3 days had not been cancelled and I was being forced into paying for the room I would travel and use the room. The Hotel was disgustingly filthy and due to me being difficult I was put into a poky room at the back of the hotel with the lift shaft behind the wall with the bed on and the stairs on the other. This hotel is not worth 65p never mind £65 per night.
