I took my mum here for afternoon tea with a 'Groupon' voucher couple of weeks ago and it was lovely. Table was set perfectly, sandwiches, cakes and scones were beautiful. The service was impeccable and staff polite and friendly. I will definately be returning for tea again and was tempted by the afternoon and evening menus too!

Got married here 16/11/13 and what a superb wedding day we had! Stayed the night before the wedding with family and had a lovely evening, room was spacious even with an extra bed for my son, lovely bathroom and enjoyable bar meal in the evening. Our wedding day went without a hitch, the buffet was lovely, plenty of bar staff and everyone looked after us, highlight of the day me and my new husband were upgraded to the bridal suite as had booked a normal room to keep our costs down. Quite a few of our guests had booked hotel rooms and everyone has said how lovely and homely the hotel was. All the staff are very friendly and helped in any way they could. Thumbs up all round!

We recently held a special birthday event here and I cannot praise the staff too highly, they were professional, polite and pleasant, nothing was too much trouble and they made the evening one to remember for my daughter and her guests. The buffet food was very good and there was plenty for everyone. We stayed the night and the room was first class, clean comfortable and quiet. I fully recommend this hotel for any special event or for just a good hotel room, conveniently located close to the M1.

The holiday inn is reasonable and as you would expect. It has some problems the biggest of which in my opinion was the lack of soap in the bathrooms. You were limited to a multi functional liquid soap that was more like an industrial degreasing agent - terrible for your body and hair. Rooms were clean but the beds were very soft and created some back problems for me with a strong preference of a firm bed
Restaurant was ok as was the bar but nothing special. There was not a lot of choices nearby so unless you drive into Barnsley you are a but limited
The gym was an attached building run separately by ?ballantyne and was awesome. Fantastic equipment of all sorts a 25 meter pool and jacuzzi. Spa facilities and best of all three rooms with classes of spinning cardio training and yoga that was available and well run. In still aching from my workout but loved it

On business in the area, arrived late so didn't use the restaurant. Bar was still open although strangely had no ice left.
Room pleased and although near the lift no noise from it, air conditioner had a clicking fit despite being off but apart from that very quiet.
Breakfast was excellent and checkout quick and easy. Will be using again next time in the area.

We stayed here for two nights. Reception and foyer are clean and modern. Check in was quick although the receptionist didn't give us any info about the gym and pool facilities next door (which is free). I had to enquire about this the next morning.

The room was clean and modern in line with Holiday Inn brand. Tea and coffee facilities, hair dryer, flat screen tv, shaving sockets in bathroom etc
Bathroom had the usual holiday inn towels and 2 in 1 showergel/shampoo in a pump.
Bed was not too comfortable as it was too soft and also the double was made up of two singles put together. The room was at the end of the corridor and quiet, therefore had a peaceful night's sleep.

Breakfast comprised of scrambled eggs, fried eggs, bacon, baked beans, mushroom, tomato, sausages (didn't have any), croissants, toast, yoghurt, cereal, fruit and hot drinks. As I love herbal teas I was happy to see that they had a few varieties including green tea. We had dinner in the restaurant which was ok but service was slow as there appeared to be a few members of staff on duty. The lady by the bar also acted as a waitress and she was very friendly and hard working.

The hotel has free parking.
The hotel is not within walking distance of any restaurants. But we enjoyed a visit to Wentworth Gardens which is about 10-15 minutes drive away.
In all the hotel was comfortable and served as a good base for our short visit.

The receptionist was very personable, knowledgeable and helpful. We were offered free access to Bannatyne's gym facilities next door and complimentary wifi. Our room was large enough, the king size bed was the major feature of the room, but was rather soft. The bathroom was spotlessly clean, and the shower was over the bath. The furniture in the bedroom was comfortable, functional and made for a pleasant stay.
We needed an early evening meal and took advantage of the bar menu. This wasn't at all busy, but the two bar staff were concerned with things other than service. Our two meals weren't that great either either regarding taste or value for money.
The hotel offers a quiet night's sleep. However a couple of the corridor lights flickered annoyingly throughout our stay, one of these was immediately outside the lift, we were surprised poor illumination in such a prominent position was left unresolved.
After our unimpressive bar meal, we were not especially looking forward to breakfast, but how wrong we were. The staff really showed that they cared about the needs of the guests. The range of food on offer was wide, freshly cooked and delicious. Loved the coffee, but the croissants were awful.
