From the moment we turned up, to the moment we left, Jan and Dave treated us like family. We were showed around the house, so fall of character, history...The bedroom-If I could of taken it home, I would of- The bed was like sleeping on a cloud, the sheets and pillowcases were soft and fresh. The bath room was twice the size of our one at home with a beautiful victorian-style bathtub in the centre of the bathroom. Clean towels and everything you wish you packed but always forget was there for you. Tea and coffee was there for us, digital TV, plenty of windows and it was satisfying being able to look out a window, whilst laying in bed, looking at the stars. An unusual sight back in Southampton. Not being an early bird, getting up for a breakfast was a struggle but going down stairs to toast, homemade muesli, fresh fruit, jams, tea, coffee and a full english breakfast, freshly cooked to your preference and local...You could taste the local in it. Perfect! We could come and go as we liked, leaving after breakfast and returning later on the evening, which ever time of day they were somewhere around to welcome you back. Perfect location with everything around you. On the last day, we decided not to disappear so early and had time to speak with Jan and David, they are 2 of the loveliest, friendliest people you could ever met and ask for if you need a break away. David and my other half spent about 45 minutes, sharing pictures and photos that he had done and exhibited and if you have a passion for photography or painting then he is a wealth of knowledge.
All in all, this B&B exceeded all of my expectations and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect.
The only problem was that we only stayed 2 nights! Thank you again, Jan and David, for making our stay certainly one to remember and defiantly a place we would recommend to everyone we know. :)

Not the best of welcomes. It was made clear they were in the middle of supper with a guest in what turned out to be the pictured "dining room" and we were left with our take out supper to eat off of our laps in the gloomy unlit lounge, as they were not providing evening meals this particular wk/end and had not warned us of this in advace. It was made clear they did not expect to be disturbed. There were no drinks available other than water on request to have with our take out. Although Jan did offer to sell me a bottle of wine if I was prepared to wait half an hour for it to cool.

Parking is virtually non existent, what there is, you access through an unlit narrow access drive between 2 cottages that can only be exited in reverse and as informed by David took Jan 6 months to navigate before managing it without assistance. If there are other guests they have to park across you blocking you in. We were lucky, we caught the other guests on their way out for a walk on the moors and was able to ask them to move their car to let us out. Otherwise we would have been stranded there until their return.

We stayed in the twin room. Unlike the suggestion of the PR photos, this side of the house is directly on the A39 which is noisy. The wall of this side of the house is the road wall. If you were to put your head outside the window and a coach was passing your head would be knocked off. This is not an exageration. Despite the day having been hot the room was cold and damp. Little sleep was had. I know Washford very well and from the photos did not recognise the property to be the location it is. Had I known I would never have booked. Coupled with the dreary welcome and nightmare parking, the end of a long tiring drive was made dismal.

The house is immaculately clean with some very fine furniture and wall hangings. However, it is cluttered and very dark to the point of gloomy which makes it oppressive.

On interrogation of what I meant by "not bad" to their enquiry of my nights sleep and forced to explain that I had found it a bit noisy I was regaled with stories of how no-one else ever has and that they have had people stay in that room when there has been head on car crash collisions right outside that window with ambulances and police sirens without the residents having heard a thing. All whilst trying to eat my breakfast which unfortunately whilst quite nice was nowhere near as fantastic as Jan and David constantly went on about.

Very unsatisfactory, the whole experience. We went out straight after breakfast looking for alternative accommodation despite being booked in for 4 nights.

Room Tip: Do not book the Twin Room, maybe better luck in the Double if you have to stay here.

Monkscider House is an old building renovated to high standards. Our bedroom was large with a high oak beamed ceiling and nicely decorated, with a victorian style bathroom en suite. The bed was large and very comfortable. Breakfast consisted of different fresh fruit every day, homemade museli and a huge full english breakfast of locally sourced produce. Outside there was a pleasant patio garden, nicely landscaped with a water feature and seating. Washford is a small village on the A39 making it a good base for touring Exmoor, Devon and Somerset Coast.

Monkscider House is right next to the main road so is very accessible and yet is not noisy at all. The garden is a real sun trap and a pleasure to sit and relax in. Our room was very spacious with a large ensuite bathroom with freestanding Victorian bath. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and organised somewhere for us to have dinner, which was incredibly good. Breakfast was amazing. Nothing more you could ask for, only to stay longer.

David and Jan are perfect hosts - there when you need them but not in-your-face all the time. On arrival, we were welcomed with tea and biscuits. Monkscider is a lovely spot, conveniently located for most of North Somerset, Exmoor and the Quantocks. Our room was large and very comfortable, if a little to fussily accessorized for our taste. There is a lounge for guests' use and free wifi (although given the thickness of the walls, one had to find a good spot to get a signal). The breakfasts are wonderful - several options all nicely cooked and presented. Jan and David were very helpful with suggestions about places to eat, itineraries etc.

This is a guest house rather than an hotel. We stayed for three nights It has two guest bedrooms. Our room was large and very comfortable with tea/coffee-making facilities. The stylish bathroom is well equipped and has a large Victorian bath. On arrival we were served with tea and biscuits in the large, comfortable and interesting lounge for guest use. It has a log fire which was very cosy after we had been out for our evening meal. Breakfasts were the best we have ever had in a guesthouse. There was a good selection of cereals, fruit juice, good quality preserves and interesting bread which we were able to toast for ourselves when we were ready. The full english breakfast which followed the cereals was very filling and just the thing for our needs since we are walkers and we like to start the day with a hearty breakfast.. Jan and David, our hosts were very welcoming and helpful during our stay.

Amazing place...cosy, old fashioned Ye Olde England feel to this place is great! Rooms are lavishly decorated but not gaudy at all. A lot of attention has been paid to decor. Really cosy and comfortable and friendly owners. Highly recommend this place
