My girlfriend and I used Monkscider as a bank holiday base. Straight from the booking Jan & David were very polite and helpful with confirming availability and ensuring the reservation went through. Upon arrival we encountered the only slight issue I have with the place, an external gate that always needed opening and closing and a very narrow drive with not great parking, fortunately we were the only guests so it wasn't so much of an issue. We met David outside and he was very friendly and welcoming, showing us all around the property and our room which was large and full of little characterful touches, antique furniture, artwork and furnishings. The bed was a lovely size and very comfy and the bathroom had plenty of space, a lovely bath and never any issues with hot water. Throughout the stay David & Jan were very attentive in seeing the room tidied and advising us if they might be out or when we might like breakfast. We had breakfast on the day of our departure and it was a lovely spread, plenty of options with fruit and yoghurts, juice, tea/coffee and excellent cooked breakfasts which we thoroughly enjoyed. It was a really pleasant experience on the whole and the B&B certainly provided everything we needed for the weekend. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to spend some time in that beautiful part of the country.

Room Tip: The double is furthest from the road and comes with a lovely big bathroom with a huge rolltop bath!

I have just spent five nights at this lovingly converted old farm building, together with my husband and grown-up son. The house is full of character and has interesting artifacts, ornaments and paintings fitted into every last nook and cranny, of which there are many! It is owned by Jan and David, who were so welcoming and full of helpful information about local activities and eating places. Downstairs there is a large lounge, a long dining room with a refectory table (and grand piano!) and a small but pretty cottage garden just outside the large old front door.
Our twin room was nicely quirky, with thought given to every last detail, and each day there were fresh towels in the room, the beds were made and the bathroom cleaned. Our son was very happy to be accomodated in a very light double room with his own bathroom just across the landing. Jan's breakfasts were extremely good, with special touches like home-poached pears or scrambled egg with smoked salmon on offer. No request was too much trouble for Jan and David; they went out of their way to make sure we really enjoyed our stay. Thoroughly recommended!

Room Tip: I believe there was a further double room with beautiful features which could accomodate young child...

This is my 4th stay in as many years at Monkscider House with Jan and David. As always the accommodation is clean, food excellent, bed comfortable, bathrooms are immaculate, there is plenty of hot water, they are very friendly and willing to help the visitor in whatever way they can. They try very hard to make your stay perfect. I Will be going back next year, can't get a better recommendation than that! Nigel

This was our first visit to monkscider House but hopefully it wont be are last, as Jan and David were most welcoming and Excellent with out two little children. The room was very very nice with all the requirements TV Hairdryer etc, and the Breakfast was Delicious. (local and Home made.) They were accommodating to all our need (late arrival, cot and much more.) There was a perfect little walk to a fabulous play park we could walk to before breakfast It was just a shame we could not stop longer. Thank you again for a wonderful stay Andrew, Sarah, Isabel and Charlotte. We would defiantly recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Front room was very light and big.

We always spend at least one weekend a year with Jan and David and have done for the past 6 years. The welcome is warm and the room we have is really lovely. Breakfasts are sourced locally and the jams etc. are usually home made. Jan and David have superb local knowledge of walks and places to see and to eat. In the spring the lovely log fire in the lounge is really welcoming after a good day out. I would never hesitate to recommend Monkcider House to anyone wanting a lovely calming weekend in glorious Somerset. For the steam railway enthusiast Washford Station is very near.
Gill and Bill Harwood.

Room Tip: Just ask for the double room.

Easy to find clean accomodation. This is our second visit here Jan and Dave made us feel so welcome, we arrived earlier than planned, we were allowed into our beautiful en-suite room, with a King Size bed, very, very clean and comfortable. The facilities included tea/coffee, digital TV , hairdryer, comfortable chairs, and a lovely victorian bathroom, again with complimentary shampoo, soaps and bath oils. The double bedroom has oak beams and a high ceiling, windows looking out onto countryside. We were allowed to come and go as we pleased, and invited to sit in the open fire lounge, which again is really well equiped and generous in size. For Traditonal English Breakfast there is a range of cereals, one of which is home made Muesli, toast with a range of breads, and for toppings, a glorious array of home made jams and marmalades. The cooked breakfast consists of bacon, sausages, hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes and fried bread, all local produce. The stay was a pleasurable experience and we will definately be staying here again.

From the moment we turned up, to the moment we left, Jan and Dave treated us like family. We were showed around the house, so fall of character, history...The bedroom-If I could of taken it home, I would of- The bed was like sleeping on a cloud, the sheets and pillowcases were soft and fresh. The bath room was twice the size of our one at home with a beautiful victorian-style bathtub in the centre of the bathroom. Clean towels and everything you wish you packed but always forget was there for you. Tea and coffee was there for us, digital TV, plenty of windows and it was satisfying being able to look out a window, whilst laying in bed, looking at the stars. An unusual sight back in Southampton. Not being an early bird, getting up for a breakfast was a struggle but going down stairs to toast, homemade muesli, fresh fruit, jams, tea, coffee and a full english breakfast, freshly cooked to your preference and local...You could taste the local in it. Perfect! We could come and go as we liked, leaving after breakfast and returning later on the evening, which ever time of day they were somewhere around to welcome you back. Perfect location with everything around you. On the last day, we decided not to disappear so early and had time to speak with Jan and David, they are 2 of the loveliest, friendliest people you could ever met and ask for if you need a break away. David and my other half spent about 45 minutes, sharing pictures and photos that he had done and exhibited and if you have a passion for photography or painting then he is a wealth of knowledge.
All in all, this B&B exceeded all of my expectations and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect.
The only problem was that we only stayed 2 nights! Thank you again, Jan and David, for making our stay certainly one to remember and defiantly a place we would recommend to everyone we know. :)
