“Hugely enjoyable day with our 2 year old daughter”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

Highly recommended.
Good range of animals. Interesting talks. The most memorable being the Tortoise talk which involved sitting on benches around the tortoise enclosure whilst the very active large and small tortoises roamed around your feet. This talk also included the opportunity to hold a snake and a large lizard.
The puppet show was delightful and felt very traditional.
The play barn was good too and the food was fine.
Excellent!

“Great for younger children and the elderly.”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

We've visited here several times over the years with the children and it is a pleasant day out. It is best for the young and old, not much to keep teenagers entertained for long. The building is such an iconic building that you really feel as if you're going back in time. We feel that there is such a lot more scope for Tropiquaria to embrace their 'vintage' building and the history it holds. The radio museum needs a damn good clear out, resorting. labelling and the history of the building and objects made into what could be a fantastic addition. At the moment it is just a cluttered room which lost the children's imagination as soon as they walked in! Such a shame, as the artifacts are good.
The outside animal areas needs some serious tlc, paint, weeding and again more labels and information. The inside are is better kept and the children loved being able to handle the animals, top marks to the young animal keepers they were lovely, friendly and knowledgeable.
We didn't have time for the puppet show with this visit but have enjoyed it previously.
There is lots of outside space and two play areas which the children enjoyed, a few more picnic tables by the fort would be nice.
The inside play area is clean and although we didn't eat at the cafe it looked nice and was a reasonable price. The toilets were lovely and clean.
I'd suggest creating a trail that children could buy for £1 including a pencil to encourage them to spot the animals and upon completion they could be rewarded with a sticker from the shop.
The highlight of our day was the Gibbon and the otters.
We will visit again in the future.

“An excellent family venue”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

Once we got past its austere exterior, this proved an excellent place to spend a few hours. The staff are friendly and helpful, the range of indoor and outdoor play areas are very impressive, the cafe is clean and large, and the food appetising. The selection of animals isn't enormous, but certainly enough to please our young grandchild. They also have an indoor selection of animals and reptiles, and staff hold several sessions during the day in which visitors are allowed to get hands-on with the creatures. Oh, and a radio museum which pleased the two men in our group. A good day out.

“Friendly little zoo”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

I have visited Tropiquaria three times now with my grandson. It's a good day out for younger children and is not too far from where we live. There isn't a huge range of animals, certainly none of the larger species, but they all appear to be clean and well cared for and children can meet
some of the creatures throughout the day. As well as the animals and birds to see there are
a variety of play areas including an indoor castle, a zip-wire ride and I defy anyone to be able to drag their kids away from the two pirate ships! There is also a puppet theatre for a quieter time.
There is an outdoor cafe (seasonal) near the pirate ships and an indoor cafe adjacent to the castle but I didn't find either very appetising as the smell of burgers and chips was a bit overpowering but the prices are reasonable and if that doesn't suit there are picnic tables.
The zoo is quite good value but would benefit greatly from a bit of a facelift and has a lot of potential being based on a very interesting building constructed in the 1930's as a radio station. Small children seem to love it and I'm sure I will be back with my youngest grandchild before long.
