I booked this hotel for myself and my husband for a three night break and have just returned home after a lovely stay. The hotel deserves another star. We had a standard room which was larger that most four star hotels in this country, the food was very nice, tables set properly and the staff very friendly and helpful. we stayed in York in a five star in February and it left a lot to be desired. There is also a state of the art spa centre with lovely pool very warm and very enjoyable. It was only completed two years ago.

Room Tip: We had room 23 on the ground floor of the new extension.

Wanted somewhere to stay for a couple of nights whist visiting York that was away from the hustle and bustle but within easy reach of the city. The reviews for this hotel sounded promising and we were not disappointed. Easy to get to the city, lovely setting and an ideal place to relax and have a restful sleep after visiting the attractions of York. All the staff were cheerful, helpful and I would say brilliant. The breakfast was excellent. Would definitely stay here again.

On arrival reception girl was very pleasant and a very friendly young lady showed us to our room , room was very tired and the net curtain was a very dirty looking grey , we decided to have a drink in the lounge bar , when asked if we would be dining we replied that we would not as we were attending the wedding , to my astonishment we were told that we were not welcome in this bar as there would not be enough room for other guests and could we go into the wedding party room there was two other people in this room at the time , having refused to leave on finishing our drinks there was still only two other people in the bar , very strange customer service.

Hotel room was cold when we arrived and took some warming.
Food very good, expensive for a 3 star, bar small and service slow.
Lovely spot and quaint place.

There was a wedding so hotel was busier than normal and 2 hen parties.

Restaurant was quiet for out meal and the food for this and the breakfast sunday really was excellent.

My wife and I have just returned home after experiencing one of the ‘Perfect Pamper Packages’ (£130.00) at the Parsonage Hotel and Spa. On arrival we ordered a couple of coffees and biscuits, which we both enjoyed, with home made crispy biscuits. We were asked at what time would we like our afternoon tea. We suggested 2.30, an hour after our spa treatment, believing our afternoon tea would be made to order. We then enjoyed the leisure facilities although were disappointed to see the salt room was closed, although a club member did advise us that this was often the case. At 1.30pm my wife and I had our treatments which were both very relaxing. We then relaxed by the pool until 2.30pm to eat our afternoon tea. We have experienced many similar packages over the years, and have never been quite so disappointed as on this occasion. The sandwiches were a little dry, the cakes were, to say the least, a bit of a let down, the biscuits were soft and to cap it all the 1/2 scone with jam and cream had obviously been prepared well in advance (I mean hours). The jam had dissolved into the scone and the 1/2 strawberry on one of the scones was mouldy. We did ask for the scone to be replaced and the lady at reception went back to the hotel after apologising but came back with another plate of the same. It would have been nice if the ‘chef’ had been bothered to cut a fresh scone in half, butter it, put jam on it, and then put cream on it. If the strawberries aren’t up to scratch then it would be better to do without. It was a shame that such a nice time at the Spa was let down by a well below standard afternoon tea.

I bought a two night break at this hotel for my husband's birthday , we have 3 boys under ten and were more than ready for the break!!! The hotel building is old and beautiful, our cream tea on arrival was delicious although it was delivered on plates instead of a stand ( minor detail), our room was clean and comfortable although decor a little tired. Staff very friendly and helpful , there was a real homely feel to the place.
The spa was great, clean, pool a good size, great jacuzzi and 4 steam rooms, gym was great too.
Our evening meal was a real treat, the atmosphere in the bar was lovely and relaxing, food great from start to finish.
Breakfast was the same.
Its a short drive to york and surrounding area is beautiful. If you need a quiet escape on a budget this is a break I would recommend.

We stayed here for two nights to celebrate my sister's upcoming 60th birthday. The bedrooms are lovely and comfortable and have lovely views over the garden or over the surrounding countryside. Breakfast was superb with plenty of choice, hot toast and perfectly cooked fried eggs (something other places struggle with). The waiting on staff were attentive and helpful. There is a really good spa that hotel guests have access to and my family made full use of these facilities whilst we were there. The hotel is ideally situated - only about 10 minutes from the Designer Outlet centre and Motorways and a 20 minute bus ride into York - it is not worth taking your car into York or the Park and Ride as the local bus stops a few yards away from the hotel and it only costs £5.30 return for a 20 minute service. (Thanks to our waitress for advising us about this).

Room Tip: You can stay in the old part of the hotel, in the cottage or in the newer coachhouse at the back - a...
