We stayed in Garden Cottage with its view of the beautiful lawn and trees and private outdoor seating area. The cottage is old, beautifully maintained, and beautifully comfortable. The general property layout is ingenious. We hardly saw another person. And the area...well, the area is to me the most beautiful part of Northumberland. The Breamish Valley is a haunting landscape. There are many walking paths right outside the door, and your hosts can provide walking advice as well as instructions for the walks that they have thoughtfully Xeroxed in their "Visitor's Center." Your hosts are on site and easily located, friendly, and happy to help with just about anything. Cannot recommend more highly. Book ahead.

We have just returned from spending the week at Gate Lodge for our 6th Wedding Anniversary. We had booked it many months before and due to the quality of the website we were so excited about staying there - suffice to say we weren't disappointed!

Although we only live just over an hour away it was still lovely to arrive to a warm welcome by Graham and warm bread and soup ready for us in the Gate Lodge itself. There was also a huge bunch of flowers and chocolates and we felt at home straightaway.
The Gate Lodge is beautfully presented and very well equipped - if you need it, they'll have thought of it and it will be there. Also everything is of high quality and are a pleasure to use! And if you fancy a night off from cooking then Trysha's pizzas on a Tuesday are a must - absolutely delicious and delivered piping hot to your door!

The beds were so amazingly comfortable - not sure if it was the fresh air, the sauna or just the luxurious beds but I slept like a log every night and so did hubby which is unusual as he doesn't normally sleep well away from home. The sauna was well used - I was in there most days with my book and wish I could have brought it home with me.

We enjoyed a few days out nearby - Howick Hall and Gardens are recommended for keen gardeners (it is huge so you can literally spend a whole day there) and their tearoom is definitely worth a visit - sandwiches were delicious! We hiked a short distance to nearby Linhope Spout waterfall and enjoyed a picnic there and I also made use of the bicycles provided and went for a cycle along the River Breamish which had some lovely views and met some friendly locals. Muddy Boots cafe is a few minutes walk from the cottage and is also worth a visit as not only does it serve tasty drinks and home-made cakes and snacks but has some lovely local crafts for sale as well.

We also very much enjoyed sitting on the patio at Gate Lodge in the sunshine enjoying a cup of tea or a glass of wine and after the first day when we noticed a bird feeder opposite the patio we bought some bird seed and filled the feeder - we were rewarded with a plethora of birds all day every day and I was delighted when I spotted a Nuthatch but the highlight had to be the cheeky red squirrel who appeared on two occasions and totally hogged the seed feeder doing acrobatics while the birds patiently lined up in the tree to await their turn!

We spoke to Graham most days as he was hard at work extending the stables opposite the Lodge and was always happy to have a chat. He also gave us a quick tour of The Retreat on the day we left and that looks truly amazing - we will definitely be back to stay there!

All in all a wonderful week which recharged our batteries in the comfort of somewhere which very much felt like home. It was everything we could have hoped for but so much more as well and we were sad to leave and vowed to return. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Cheviot Holiday Cottages to anyone - they are truly first class!

Room Tip: Gate Lodge - bring some bird seed and you will be rewarded!

It's almost impossible to describe just how welcoming the smell of a freshly baked loaf of bread can be but this was just one way in which our senses were excited as we entered Honeysuckle Cottage. You also have the visual impact of such a beautiful cottage in a very beautiful surrounding.

We were there to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and the cottage was all that we wanted. Quiet, comfortable, spacious, very well equipped and with stunning views over the adjoining countryside.

Trysha and Graham have gone all out to make sure that you have the best stay possible and this includes the most comfortable beds we have ever experienced outside of our own home. If you do fancy a night away from the brilliantly equipped kitchen I can thoroughly recommend Trysha's home made pizza's which are delicious.

A perfect week and a new 'best' to top the list of cottages we have stayed in all around the UK. I don't think we will ever find better and plan on returning as soon as we can.

Just perfect.

We thought Trysha and Graham couldn't better "The Gate Lodge" which we stayed in last October but have just returned home after staying in their new cottage called "THE RETREAT". Like the Gate Lodge, we arrived to the aroma of fresh baked bread and hot home made soup plus treats of flowers and chocolates etc.
The cottage was absolutely gorgeous with its own indoor swim spa, spacious rooms, quality TV's and audio system. As usual, what ever you required Trysha or Graham was always available to sort it via a direct telephone line from the cottage, so if you have a special occasion to celebrate or just want to indulge yourself in luxury, look no further, this is the place to stay. A very romantic 6 star cottage called The Retreat

Stayed in Barley Mill towards end of May, picked through the Premier Cottages brochure by my 3 y.o. (who knows why over any others!) We loved it. From first contact, Trysha (and Graeme) were delightful to deal with, answering queries promptly and efficiently. Waiting for us - packed away - was our Tesco online order and local food from Food Heaven together with bread just out of the bread maker. The house was immaculate, grounds beautiful and the area just stunning. Have a look at it on Streetview (Google Maps) and you can potter around as if you were there. Excellent room with lots of info in the main house and the bespoke pizzas on the Tuesday were some of the best we've had! Great for kids - stairgates, cot etc - and lots of cattle and sheep about meant lots to see at all times. Cannot fault it in any way. It's all about the attention to detail and this place has it in spades. We hope to be back, and soon!

These cottages are just perfect, we stayed in the Gate House and could not find fault with anything, the accommodation is 5 star and some. It was a ideal base to explore the Breamish Valley, river and hills or a great location to discover more of Northumberland. Our hosts were on hand if we needed anything , but not intrusive. The cottage gardens were a delightful place to enjoy a glass of wine and to simply relax. Highly recommended.
