Being from Florida and not interested in the hustle of London or any other big city, we flew into Newcastle and drove a Hertz car to the Cheviot Cottages, about a one-hour drive. The Carriage House cottage is just right for two people, and well-appointed with all the utensils and appliances we could ask for. We did cook in two nights. I had lamb chops because they are pricy at home, but better and much less costly in Northumberland than in the US. There is no hood to vent the range fumes and we did open the windows, but still got a rather polite complaint from the smoke detector, but not too obnoxious. We learned, from necessity, how to use a french press coffee maker, and were so pleased with the results that we have started using one at home. Graham and Trysha were extremely helpful, friendly and responsive to our requests for learning the somewhat unfamiliar UK appliances. The welcoming hot bread and lemon chicken dinner we had waiting on our arrival were wonderful, and lasted us two days. The location was perfect - so close to all the castles and other places we wanted to visit, and only 1-1/2 hours from Edinburgh where we stayed for one night. Yet, well into the beautiful and peaceful countryside. The per-night cost of our 10-night stay was very reasonable compared with hotel prices. We would definitely recommend the Cheviot Holiday Cottages for anyone who is looking for value, ambiance and a country setting.

Room Tip: Carriage House cottage is good for a couple, and quiet.

Just arrived home from a week staying in Gate Lodge and cannot speak highly enough about this place and its owners. Everything has been thought of to make your stay a relaxing experience.

On arrival we had Frank Sinatra playing on the cottages stereo system with hot soup and bread waiting for us. Shortly after arriving one of the owners popped in to show us how everything worked ensuring that we had everything we needed and to let them know if we did need anything. They have a number of cottages here and a guest lounge with everything from leaflets for the local attractions, a dvd library to borrow from and on site freshly made pizza to order on a particular night each week.

We saw the owners almost each day in the grounds and they were always friendly and helpful recommending places to go and checking we were okay.

The cottage itself had everything you can think of and is so thoughtfully put together, with a good layout, you really don't need or want to go anywhere else whilst staying there. Even with its resident chicken, who made the stay even more unique.

We've stayed in many cottages throughout the U.K and this is by far the most luxurious we have ever been to, we've only just arrived home and are thinking of planning a return trip already! Overall an extremelly relaxing peaceful and amazing place to stay.

Room Tip: The hot tub is an amazing experience at night when the stars are shining.

We have just returned from a week staying in the Gate Lodge and cannot praise the accommodation or location too highly. We were blessed with probably the best week of weather, certainly in Northumberland anyway, since the end of last summer! Graham and Trysha were helpful and unobtrusive hosts - there if you needed to consult them but always aware of people's desire for privacy. The facilities in the lodge were faultless; the home baked bread and fresh soup on arrival, the fantastic modern kitchen with everything the resident chef needs - we didn't eat out in the evening as the chef enjoys preparing meals (!) and we both enjoy a glass or two of wine in beautiful surroundings without having to worry about who is driving! During the day we mixed visits to nearby coastal towns and villages (Holy Island & Lindisfarne, Craster & Dustanburgh, Bamburgh, Alnwick & Alnmouth) with long walks into the Cheviots and along the Breamish Valley. Always knowing that when we arrived back a little weary from a long walk there was always the brilliant hot tub or the Infra Red sauna to refresh our aching muscles! The bathroom was lovely too and the super king sized bed was comfortable and ensured a good nights sleep in a blissfully quiet location.

After a six hour drive in appalling weather, it was lovely to arrive at Graham and Trisha’s lovely cottage (Bluebell Byre) to a roaring fire and fresh home baked bread. The cottage is in a fabulous location; perfect for exploring both the amazing coastline and the National Park... with excellent hikes from the cottage door. The bathrooms have both recently been updated and, thanks to the fantastic jacuzzi bath, our 11 year old daughter had never been as keen for a wash! Sadly we were unable to try the lovely sounding home baked pizzas as we had pre-booked dinner reservations at The Treehouse that we were unable to change, but other reviews suggest they are scrumptious. Their restaurant suggestions were excellent and we enjoyed many excellent dinners out. This isn’t our 1st visit to Northumberland but we’re missing Ingram already and we’ll definitely come back to Cheviot Holiday Cottages.

Graham was the perfect Owner/ Manger/Host during our Christmas 2017 stay in Dovecote cottage at Cheviot Holiday Cottages. From our first point of contact he made us welcome and was very informative and helpful during our stay.

Our cottage was cosy, clean and well stocked with all amenities, it contained all that we needed and more for the week. Nice little touches like a bottle of complimentary bubbly and chocolates were there to greet us. The jacuzzi was fantastic.

A great location for walking, the surrounding countryside was breathtaking and we made use of the many country walks (in the snow). Also, the cottage was only approx. 30mins drive from the coast which again was a big draw for us.

We had a great experience all round, Graham and his wife do a brilliant job there, they make fantastic pizzas delivered to the door and we would HIGHLY recommend staying at Cheviot Holiday Cottages.

Room Tip: Get in early
