This hotel in my opinion is a tale of two halves. I will start with the positives of which there are many:
Staff are very friendly and welcoming and could not do enough for you and they would get 5 stars
The bar and restaurant also 5 stars, the food was excellent and very reasonable, we had a meal the first night and we could not fault it and the breakfast was tasty and hot with lots of variety.
The location is a bit out of the way but a 15 minute drive takes you to Rawcliffe bar park and ride which costs £2.60 return each, which was great and we used it both days. It took a least 30 minutes to drive into York so I can imagine it would be pricey in a taxi.
Now for the negatives which is the rooms. The first room we were given had a strong odour but they moved us immediately to a similar room but less smelly. The rooms reminded us of student accommodation, they were very basic but clean, but it did feel more like staying in a hospital room rather than a hotel. The walls are very thin and I think a lot of people who are in business use it, as from 6am it was quite noisy, with lots of banging and slamming of doors. however for what we paid ( we had a groupon deal) we couldn't really complain. If the rooms were on par with the rest of the hotel we would be giving it 5 stars

Room Tip: I think if you had an upgrade into the original part of the hotel it would be spot on

Planning a last- minute long weekend to York, especially this close to Christmas, proved difficult when trying to find accommodation.

The Tulip Inn is situated close enough to the city if you don't mind a 15- minute drive, and upon arrival I found the surroundings to be pleasant and the staff welcoming.

The room was extremely basic, and the bathroom did have that unpleasant 'hospital' smell. We were provided with the usual amenities- tea and coffee, soap, hair-dryer, etc. As we were planning on spending most of our time out and about, we were fairly happy on the whole with the room. The one exception which did annoy me was that we had requested a double room, and we were given a twin with the beds pushed together.

Unfortunately on our first night, there was constant noise in the corridor from about midnight until 3am, starting with banging doors but it soon became apparent that this hotel is a hot spot for stag and hen do's, as the shouting and swearing was loud and led to an uncomfortable and frustrating night.

Based on my experience, in future I will make sure to find accommodation in York sooner rather than later, and aim for a B+B.

Room Tip: When booking, ask for a room away from large groups, as the rooms are not very sound-proof!

Stayed for 2 nights and were impressed with the friendly service and the quality of the hotel. Room was clean and warm. We used the park and ride service to visit York on the Saturday. We ate in the dining room on Saturday night and had a really lovely meal and enjoyed the breakfasts. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who was visiting York and the surrounding area.

From booking to 'bidding' farewell Lovely, lovely staff. (Then you are up North !) Had two nights nice food, good wine, comfy beds & smiles.Great place. Quiet near one of Yorks Park & Ride sites. (Great for getting into York for the day) Will use again.

Room Tip: Many rooms so could be a long walk to stairs & lifts so if walking is a problem ASK !

We stayed here as part of a coach party while visiting the Christmas Markets in Harrogate & York.
We were warmly welcomed.
Excellent staff & customer service, very friendly & professional.
Our room was warm, comfortable & clean. Pristine bedding.
The bathroom was a bit shabby, and could benefit from a lick of paint, but was very clean.
The food & restaurant service was excellent, congrats to the management. I feel I should apologise for one member on our tour (not one of our party), she was rude & complained about everything! not fair at all, and if a bad review is left by her, it will be so unfair toward this hardworking hotel.
All in all, a great stay, would return & recommend to others.
For a Three star hotel, Excellent!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 126. We had a silent nights sleep, no noise whatsoever. The bathroom was fully kitted out for a disabled person, should you need it. It was a little shabby, but was clean. No complaints from us.
