“Night stay at Tulip Inn York”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

Me and my partner decided to stay at Tulip inn for our first year of being together and also wanted to visit York. We found a deal through Living Social for £39 - being minutes away from York City Centre. The hotel is actually 30 minutes away in which we were thinking it was a walk away giving 'minutes'. Arrived and checked in in good time and got to our room and realised it was a disabled room. The heating in the room did not work and wouldn't switch off which was far too hot so moved rooms to a standard room. The bar closed at 10.30pm due to short staff and in the morning somebody entered our room even though it said 'do not disturb'. Hotel is reasonable, staff are friendly, hotel is clean and the food is nice.

Stayed for one night following a wedding. Disabled parking is on gravel ?? The disabled room had been booked approx 10 months earlier. On arrival we were told that the disabled room has been given to another guest and what did we want them to do evict the guest ? they did offer a larger room but it was not suitable as a disabled room so our son had to go home. No rooms in this hotel offer a wet room or room to get a hoist in over the bath. The disabled lift to get from reception to the other public rooms was faulty and it took 3 people to be able to get it to work. The service was very poor still waiting for the milk at breakfast, tables were dirty as not cleared away quick enough, guests were left just standing about because they were not sure where to sit. The hot breakfast food ran out and customers were left standing about waiting to see if more arrived. We cleared our own table and shared milk from other guests.
This hotel has just been taken over and has some very serious issues to address. They need to address customer service and offer appropriate disabled facilities by researching and asking disabled people what they would like to see in a hotel room as there is a big market for these holiday venues. Big variations in price from £45 to £80 same room per night.

Room Tip: Sorry no comment

I think some of the reviews of Burn Hall have rather concentrated on impolite other guests. My wife and I stayed over from Monday to Wednesday and what a lovely break we had.The receptionist was welcoming , our upgraded room was simple but clean (had a bed and a bath and a tv and a radiator you could turn on and off)We had our evening meal in the restaraunt and it was delicious.Breakfast on the two days was piping hot and the service was excellent,The hotel without weddings is tranquil and peaceful but that doesn't pay the bills so if you arrive on a wedding day it's going to be busy.We had nothing to complain about and after a full day in York the Mrs slept right through the night. On our second night we had a meal in the room which was beutifully presented and worth the extra fiver.Water was piping hot for a bath and if the wife can sleep all night the bed must have been great.Would recommend this hotel again and again

Room Tip: We got an upgraded double on the front of the hotel at the end of the corridor(213) which overlooked...

Could not possibly recommend this hotel to anyone. There are other, far better, options available at these prices. Needs to do much better. Bed unmade, showers/bath fittings did not work. Dirty trays lying in corridors for up to 24 hours. Food returned to kitchen - anything else?

Room Tip: Go elsewhere

We booked in to the hotel on a "deal", and were disappointed with the outcome. The Hall looks like a Travelodge, and is in need of an upgrade. The room was clean but seemed a bit fusty, and the smell from the bathroom wouldn't have been out of place in a hospital. Our friends had to change rooms because theirs was so bad. This same smell was evident in the main toilets near the bar and reception rooms.
We went down to the bar for our afternoon tea, but were told we could not have any at present because there was a wedding on. A bit later, others were still being served with theirs, and when we asked again, we were told no, the kitchen was too busy.
The bar was unbelievably busy too. Yes, there was a wedding on, but with one young man serving.
So, we nipped into Easingwold for an hour or so before our evening meal, but the situation hadn't improved when we got back. All credit to the barman, he wasn't flustered or anything. We complained at the front desk that he needed help, and he got assistance for a short while.
The food in the restaurant was OK, but very small helpings.
It seemed that everywhere was short staffed though, with countless tables full of empty glasses.
Breakfast the next morning was similar. Adequate, but the poor staff were frantically running about trying to clear plates, serve coffee, and re-stock the hotplates.
On checkout I explained about not getting afternoon tea, and the receptionist kindly reimbursed a round of drinks.
We had a reasonable stay, considering, but definitely won't be going back, or recommending to anybody else.

Stayed 4th Feb. Executive room was plain. Room and bathroom VERY dusty. Ceiling all watermarked. Radiator broken and on full heat all the time! Corridors in darkness. Bathrobes stained. Breakfast was disgusting. Was very ill afterwards. Customer service below average.

This hotel was disappointing. The room was soulless it was clean and the bed firm and comfy. The room was too hot with no way of turning down the radiator. A wedding was being held both days we were there the staff were overworked but tried very hard. The tables in the bar and at breakfast weren't being cleared. Breakfast was slow and not everything was available.the staff needed more training and leadership.they were very casual but tried hard

Room Tip: Make sure there are no weddings guests were not considerate at 2am
