“Superb stay, good location great staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

We went away for 2 days to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We wanted somewhere that was near the Settle to Carlisle steam railway and that was pet friendly. The Coniston Hotel and Country Estate fitted the bill exactly. The Hotel is set in 1400 acres of beautiful Yorkshire Dales countryside - nestled between the market towns of Skipton and Settle. From booking the room through to staying and leaving the staff were so very polite and helpful. We have stayed in many hotels around the world and I have to say this has been one of the friendliest. We booked a superior room with dinner bed and breakfast and what good value it was. Our room was on the ground floor with a door leading onto our own patio which had 2 easy chairs and a table. This access onto the patio then onto the lawned area around the hotel was ideal for our young Labrador. The room was spacious with a very large comfy double bed, writing desk and chair and another occasional table and comfy side chair. The bathroom was spacious with proper bath towels (a decent size) along with hand towels. Plenty of draws for storage and wardrobe space. The food was excellent, good choice and well presented. There were two restaurant's the A La Carte Macleod's and the Huntsman's Lodge which has great views over the lake and estate. Lisa who waited on our table was so nice and friendly. Indeed all the staff from reception to housekeeping were all very nice and helpful. There are many walks on the estate through the woods and around the lake. Other activities included falconry, fishing, cycling, shooting and the Land Rover Experience where you can spend an hour or more driving the latest models off road in very challenging conditions. We will certainly be visiting again-can’t wait!

Our daughter and her fiance have chosen this hotel for their wedding reception next year. With this in mind we have visited several times over the past few months both for a bar snack lunch or a coffee. On Good Friday they were offering a special package of dinner, bed and breakfast so we opted for it. We decided to up grade to one of their top rooms with a balcony looking over the lake. The whole experience was excellent. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The staff are wonderful and make you feel as though you are their only guest. The food is excellent too. We met the owner whilst we were staying and he explained that the hotel's policy is local first in all things from the food to the staff. This attention to detail is very evident. We are certainly looking forward to the wedding at the hotel but we will be calling in frequently before hand and no doubt afterwards as well.

Room Tip: If you want a separate shower as well as a bath go for the Superior or Luxury rooms.

We have had a wonderful stay at the Coniston Hotel in a luxury room overlooking the lake. The view is spectacular.
The room size is generous. We had a chaise lounge at the end of our bed plus a table and chairs indoors and balcony with table and chairs.
The bed is raised up, a good size and comfy.
The bathroom is nice - the separate shower and bath is our preferred layout and the comp toiletries are very nice.
We had dinner in the hotel which was excellent - food was well presented and good size portions. The staff are friendly without being too intrusive.
We also had breakfast which was not as good as dinner although we came down late (9.50 - breakfast is served until 10 on a Sunday!!! So much for my lie in)
There are plans to construct a spa which in addition to all the other outdoor offers will really compliment the hotel.
All in all a gem of a hotel.

Room Tip: If you can afford the upgrade go for a luxury room with a view - we had room 56 - excellent choice.

lovely setting and comfortable rooms. food pretty good, except for a very average full Yorkshire breakfast. the real problem is that it seems to be run by numbers - very little flexibility from staff, especially in dining areas. no sense of trying to meet needs of customers, just tick the boxes. Is this part of a chain or something?

Spent (only) 2 nights here , and we were so well looked after.
Staff are very professional and friendly, and the food is excellent both in Restaurant and more informal eating area.
Enjoyed a lovely walk around the estate which has a beautiful lake.

Room Tip: Rear rooms overlook lovely lake

Exceptional views over the lake from the restaurant terrace has been my main memory of the hotel, but this was not the only plus for my staff. Myself and my wife stayed on a groupon deal, so I was not surprised at the size of the room. But although it was not massive it was very comfortable and everything you needed. When we went for a walk around the grounds, it was lovely to meet the Lady of the Manor House who own the Hotel and all the massive area of land that it is in. She was remarkably friendly and very talkative, it was also a refreshing site to see her and the Lord eating in the main restaurant with there family. You could see why all the staff are so happy and helpful as there bosses set such a fine example. I would recommend this lovely hotel to anyone as the food, drinks (Real Ales) and staff were all lovely.
