Great pub. Lovely home cooked food, super staff, hospitable Landlord, well kept beer (Black Sheep and Timothy Taylor's), tasteful country pub interior with separate bar and dining areas. The Wheatsheaf has it all. Understandably, it's busy every night (no food on Sunday evenings and closed on Mondays) so best to book. The Whitby crab linguine special was awesome and all the meat comes from Radford's in nearby Sleights which is really excellent. We ate here 3 times in a week, every time was consistently very good.

Lovely pub. Inside was very spacious and tastefully decorated for eating and drinking. Landlord was very accommodating , getting us a seat for dinner even though they were pretty much booked up. The menu/food exceeded my expectations of food from a pub. Double baked cheese soufflé for starter was light and cheesy , and my husband loved the pate made with Drambuie.
Mains of slow cooked shoulder , and salmon was cooked to perfection . Fabulous -No room for dessert unfortunately!

Arrived at this pub as part of the gallon walk. Parked our van outside as the first port of call was next door (we planned to leave the vehicle at the the 3rd pub as there was overnight parking) As we walked to the first pub next door a quite rude woman started bellowing down the road about if we were going to be drinking next door we should park next door. A fair comment, but the manner it was delivered was ill deserved. We explained to her that we were coming there next and she muttered that it was OK then returned to the pub. We had our first pint at Ye Olde Horseshoe where we were welcomed by the staff. On return, the pub was busy and it was clear that the pub wasn't ready for an influx of people, so we lost patience, missed the pub and completed the walk, where every other pub were more than happy to take our trade.

We turned up at 1.45 after a rather wet walk on the moors. Sadly the kitchen had closed for lunch, but the owner happily organised great sandwiches and then to compensate for us missing lunch offered us delightful trios of mini desserts and coffee. Our visit to the Wheatsheaf was a rare example of outstanding customer service. The warmth of the welcome, delicious and imaginitive food and a landlord more than happy to go the extra mile made a refreshing change. An outstanding example of the great british pub. We will certainly come back to try the legendary Sunday lunches! Thank you, to all at the Wheatsheaf.

We turned up at the pub without booking around 1.30pm and the welcome was lovely, really friendly guy behind the bar who happily showed us to our table (7 of us)

The staff couldn't have been more friendly and nothing at all was a trouble. Menu was perfect for what we wanted.

I really recommend the fish stew, wonderful!!

My wife was going to get the steak pie but isn't keen on kidney "no problem, we make it fresh so I'll just leave out the kidney" was the reply from the chef. Great!!

Food was hot, fresh and perfect! Kids had homemade lasagne and fresh burger. Again, great value.

Cannot say much more other than give it a try!! We'll be back on our next visit from Australia!
