We have been to the Egton/Glaisdale on several occasions over the years and one of the places we always have to stop and eat at is the Wheatsheaf. The food is always well prepared, served hot, and there is always lots of it! We also appreciate the use of fresh local ingredients. I know we will be back again on our next visit as we love the food and the quality service. Thank you!

We had been here several years ago and decided to try it again while on holiday this year. So glad we did. It seems to have changed from a pub that serves good meals to a top restaurant. The food was faultless. I had the vegetarian option of Nut Roast which was excellent. The accompanying veg tasted as if they were straight from the garden, they were so fresh. Great idea with the sweets. One large sweet or a trio of sweets. I had the trio and it was delicious. Even the ice cream was different, rhubarb and ginger. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Just a pity we are so far away or we would go on a regular basis.

We've just returned from our second night of dining at The Wheatsheaf, and wish we had found it for our first night here also, in Sleights. Absolutely FABULOUS food - and great accompanying vegies as well, which we look for - not being 'chip' fans. I had the Chicken and Bacon pie last night, and the Lamb Shoulder tonight, while my husband had freshly caught Wild Salmon last night, and the Mulled Steak pie tonight - with the most divine . . lard(?) pastry. (We're not English, and I don't think 'lard' is quite right . . ) but very short, utterly magnificent and tasty pastry. VERY highly recommended!

We eat twice - in the bar for lunch and, on another occasion, in the restaurant for dinner. The food was superb on both occasions, the host is a true gentleman and accommodating to his customers, the service excellent and courteous and the atmosphere that of the English country inn at its best. The restaurant is also very open and airy - perfect for summer.

Went here for a light lunch with friends from the Netherlands, knowing we would get good food - we weren't disappointed. The fresh crab sandwich was divine and came with a gorgeous salad garnish. We shared a portion of chips - these were, for me, the best chips I have ever eaten and were served with three small bowls of ketchup, mayonnaise and sweet chilli sauce. Staff were attentive and really friendly, so much so that we were persuaded to partake of some ice cream - I recommend the rhubarb and ginger. Have visited the Wheatsheaf of a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. They also do accommodation which is first class!
