“Weekend Break”
Reviewed 3 October 2012

We stayed for one night, thank goodness, to attend a friends party in the village, and will never stay again, The room was small with a very small bathroom, the room was dirty and furnishings very tired

Where do I start ?.........
1. Shower takes at least 5 minutes before any sign of water warming up.
2. Tv makes an awful buzzing sound if volume above a certain level.
3. Unclean cups on arrival.
4. Bed not comfortable.
5. Kettle broke. Informed staff 5 hours ago, and still waiting for replacement. What kind of hotel dosent have a spare?!

I have never done a review before but I would like to warn customers NOT to stay here! We arrived at the hotel tried to pay and they said that card machine not working cash only! We got the keys to our room where the door has been forced that many times it would hardly close! Sheets were not the best and TV would not work!

We changed room which was slightly better but bathroom was so tiny! We did not stay for breakfast as could not get out of there quick enough! Even taxi driver was shocked we were staying there! NEVER AGAIN!!!! FILTH!!!

Room Tip: Go else where!

Well, where do we start. When we arrived we were told that the balance payable (after the deposit upon booking) had already been taken MONTHS ago, even though we were expecting to pay the remainder on arrival. This was totally unacceptable and NOT what was arranged. The rooms were strange to say the least, with new fittings but old beds, no duvet (just a manky pad of wadding wrapped in sheets). The carpets were filthy and the decor old and unfinished, as if someone had gone around putting the odd blob of paint here and there. Our window had no lock or handle and had to stay open. The "bathroom in the cupboard" as we called it was in a shocking state, although admittedly quite clean. The mirror was smashed and had gaffer tape over the broken bit, with wires hanging down from behind. The hot water was non existent as was the water pressure - I could pee faster! Maybe that was why there was a distinct body odour smell in the corridors.

The breakfast, which is NOT included in the price was abysmal. They seem to have taken the term "fry up" literally as everything was swimming in (stale) oil, burned and then served cold, in very small portions. One slice of shriveled bacon, 2 greasy sausages that seemed to have exploded in the fryer, a hash brown - also burned - and a hard greasy fried egg. Oh, and stone cold beans, served on a huge puddle shaped plate that didn't fit on the dirty table. Need I say more?

The "restaurant" looked empty and unused and after experiencing the food at breakfast would never have eaten there anyway. The bar was not open, even though we were told we could sit in there if we wanted to (?) The staff may have been friendly, but they obviously know nothing about running a hotel. The best thing about staying there was the restaurant over the road, they get 5 stars.

Room Tip: Just don't

When I arrived it already looked less then the photo's suggested. The restaurant was closed and the hotel bar had only a few beer bottles, when paying they couldn't give change from £10,-.
Trying to take a shower didn't work as there was hardly any water coming out of it. Thought it would be better next morning but there was no water at all. At the reception I was told there was a main water burst, which they forgot to tell me when checking in.
For breakfast the restaurant was opened by the receptionist and he made 2 toast. Together with some jam that was it.
When asking for an invoice at checking out I got a handwritten paper torn from a notebook. They would email me another version later although I never received this.

Although it is the only hotel in the village I would choose it above any others. It is clean and there have been recent investments in new furnishings and equipment. For the price it is excellent value and you get a decent en-suite room. What more could you wnat?
