I arrived hot and tired to find my room not ready, but this was not a problem the friendly staff took my bag off me told me to relax while they quickly finished. Decor is grimm but would be worth double if someone decorated !!
room was sadly not a sea view, but for a single room was lovely clean crisp linen and towels, lots of hot water and a decent TV
Only down side for me was the food .... it wasnt excellent. but overall a pleasant stay and lovely staff

Room Tip: ask for a sea view, but be aware this is a popular pub as well as hotel

A simply awful experience. My room was small, hot and had frosted glass on windows which barely opened. It was also not serviced during my entire two night visit. I received no apology, merely a promise to have a word with the maid.
On checking in, when I told the manageress neither I nor another guest could open my bedroom door with the key, she flatly contradicted me. Not a good start to a stay.
The entire hotel is extremely tired-looking, both inside and out. The paintwork is grubby, stained and chipped both outside, in the public areas, corridors, and staircase. The whole place looks as though it has endured much heavy wear, and hasn't been redecorated for at least 10-15 years. My room badly needed refurbishing, and there was paint on the very aged curtains. There was no shelf on which to put any washing/shaving items in the bathroom (wash-bag had to be put on the floor whilst washing), and no plug for the basin. The replacement plug didn't fit either.
To cap it all, the staff did not know how to put an incoming phone call through to a guest's bedroom.
Apart from that the bar and dining room staff where friendly and efficient. But don't expect me to be coming back ever again. A truly awful place to stay.

Room Tip: Find somewhere else to stay. If you must stay here, check the room before you sign in, mine was simp...

We had a mini break booked from Wed 16th to Saturday 19th. Arrived to find car book full as its a pay and display too. Paid to park across the street. Hotel check in good, room was Thomas Clare Suite which was lovely with sea view. Only problem was plaster falling off the walls and very tired decor. Fortunately weather was good so outside most of the time. Breakfast good on choice and quality, shame not alot of fresh fruit variety on buffet. Outside decking was fairly mucky with serviettes and food on floor. Staff were pushed to serve/clear so didn't have time for cleaning, they were still cheerful though. 2 days we had glasses on the decking, last day they decided we should never have had them so were served wine in plastic - don't do plastic 'glasses'. On decking should trust GUESTS to behave appropriately. Can see point if you take down to concrete but we're not children and they should have enough staff to cope with accidents.

Room Tip: Our suite was good for breeze in hot weather, apparently general rooms are very hot, small with not...

The White Horse in Rottingdean is 'an old in', not a new hotel, keep that in mind. But, its charming, its situated just by the sea in Rottingdean, having breakfast/lunch/dinner whilst hearing the waves and the seagulls are great. The staff are great! The bus to downtown Brighton just outside the hotel. Despite 'all good' I would not recommend the family room as there where just roof-window and a window towards a small inner area with birds. Try to get rooms with a view to the sea:-)

This hotel is a bit tired but in a perfect location by the beach and central Rottingdean.

There is parking and a frequent bus to Brighton and Eastbourne, lovely coast road routes.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful, the rooms were a good size and clean the breakfast menu is excellent and nicely served.

We would use it again.

Ask for a sea view and for a bit extra the suites are worth considering.

Excellent location close to restaurants, race course and undercliff walk. Food at the restaurant was very good, showers in the room exceptional!! Rudyard Kipling suite was very spacious with amazing views. Would recommend to anyone wanting a great seaside spot close to Brighton (50 minute walk along the waterfront (undercliff walk). Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Your opinion of this hotel will depend entirely on what it is you're looking for. If you're looking for a luxury holiday then it certainly isn't the right place for you, but if you're looking for great location at a reasonable price (just somewhere to lay your head at night), then this hotel is just that.

Ok, the hotel as a whole is in need of a make over and the rooms are certainly very tired, but our room was clean and tidy, a reasonable size and with a decent bed. The room had a TV, tea and coffee making facilities and plenty of storage space for clothes. The bathroom was a decent size with a very powerful shower (which i love) and plenty of crisp white towels.

We stayed at this hotel (along with 3 other couples) as we were all atteding a wedding in Brighton. The reason for choosing this hotel was it's great price, location, it had parking and breakfast also included.

The breakfast consisted of a cold buffet (cereals, fruit, yoghurt, muffins, croissants etc.) with the option of a cooked breakfast (full english, salmon, omelette, poached eggs etc.) if you wanted it. The breakfast was lovely, much better than i expeced.

If you're visiting Brighton and the cost of hotels is important then this hotel is ideal. The bus stop in to Brighton is right outside the hotel and is only a 5 minute journey which saves you driving and trying to find somewhere to park. Taxis are also easy enough to get hold of.

Overall, this hotel scores 5 stars for it's location and price, but the decor and general appearance of the hotel lets it down quite a lot. Having said that, if we were to come back to Brighton, i would still choose to stay here as it was good value for money.
