“Perfect for us”
Reviewed 23 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

This is the second time my daughter and I stayed at the cottage. Rottingdean is a beautiful place to stay and the cottage was perfect for us. It is very cosy and welcoming.

Right near the beach, and very regular bus service. Right opposite a lovely deli/ bread shop, that does super bacon rolls from 7.30 am- and picnic baskets! Comfy double bed and pullout sofa bed (in case of extra guests) Perfect for walking the South Downs way.

“Picturesque very old house, but beware of the low ceilings,”
Reviewed 9 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

The cottage is very picturesque and dates from c. 1712. It is situated right in the hear of Rottingdean, so a lot of traffic in front of the house, including doubledeckers - still, it is the traffice of a village, not a big town. Lovely tiny backside terrace with ivy and flowers for your breakfast. But beware of those low ceilings and beams, including the low shower (under the roof).
David was most welcoming and generously gave us bread from his bakery. We lacked a few things such as a European adapter for our phone, a tea pot and a coffee maker. While the upstairs bedroom with its large bed is just fine, the sofa bed downstairs needs renewal and some cleaning as well. Upstairs and downstairs huge TV screens and David generously offered his DVD collection for use. We were also impressed by his Elvis collection of books (which he made himself) and gadgets. If you don't need the sofa bed and you are not tall, you'll have a wonderful time here.
In Summertime the Kipling gardens of Rottingdean are enchanting and the undercliff walk to Brighton may be warm but is very impressing. The Burne-Jones windows in the St Margaret church are astonishing, while the local museum has a nice section on cinema in Sussex, including National Velvet and Audrey Hepburn. The walk to the mill on the hill is worthwhile too.

“Great Place”
Reviewed 9 November 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We found this cottage great for our 5 day stay. Everything we needed was there and shops/restaurants/beach really close and convenient There were three of us staying and Dave was very welcoming and helpful.

Would recommend it even though there were a few downsides to keep in mind.
It's right on the main road (very narrow & busy), parking was challenging and have to be careful in the shower if you're tall.

“Perfect romantic bolthole!”
Reviewed 13 April 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Great location. Pubs with high quality food or an extensive gin menu, only moments away. Ditch the car. Catch the bus into Brighton. Cheap, quick and easy. Walk the undercliff route by the sea. Great fun when the spray catches you over the top of the wall.
Property itself is clean and cosy and contains everything you will need. Owner is attentive and helpful and on hand if you need him.
Well worth a visit!

“Elvis has not left the building!”

After my first night in this quaint property I assumed ownership and it felt like home after returning from each sortie. Be it coming back from a stroll round the village green or a trip to the shops, it felt comfortable and welcoming. The inventory is ample and the audio visual extras make this an easy and stress-less excursion, would recommend to the highest order but 5 is the maximum, so 5 stars is all I can give. The Elvis reference is due to the super collection of Elvis books and dvds I perused while at the property, ..... along with all the other films available from the owners library that one can watch on a wet Sunday afternoon.
We ate at the Olde Cottage for a full English breakfast, had fish and chip supper at the Smugglers and a lovely Toad in the Hole with bubble 'n' squeak at the Queen Victoria. Unfortunately missed eating at the Black Horse as it was fully booked both days we went. The aforementioned establishments are all within a couple of minutes walk from this delightful abode. By the way, any quirks and foibles are fully explained by the owner, David, but everything was just dandy for us..... thank you David.
