My husband and I got married on Friday 1st August, and following our wedding travelled to Headlam Hall for a spa break to spend some quality time together and relax. The reception staff were kind and friendly, and we were welcomed straight away by a wonderful porter who ensured we knew where everything was and how to access the spa. After putting on our swimwear, dressing gowns and slippers, we found our way easily to the brasserie for a sandwich and a drink and were served by the amazing spa staff. We both had a full body aromatherapy massage (amazing!) in the afternoon and spent the rest of our time relaxing in the hot tub, pool and sauna. We went for dinner at 8 in the restaurant and had an amazing meal, again served by fantastic attentive staff. Following this we had a few drinks in the relaxing lounge where there was a live pianist which was simply wonderful. In the morning we were welcomed into breakfast which was a generous buffet as well as a menu to order cooked breakfast. My husband had the salmon and eggs, and I had a full breakfast, both of which were delicious! This mini-break really was exactly what we needed to relax and unwind. Will definitely be returning to Headlam Hall.

Room Tip: The spa rooms are amazing - nothing feels as luxurious as walking around the hotel in your dressing...

On Saturday 2nd August 2014 I was a guest at a wedding and the venue was Headlam Hall Hotel and Spa. I have been to many weddings at various hotels and I could not praise this high enough. A lady organiser was in attendance very discretely at all times and she really did know her role.
Everything ran so smoothly, it was a very relaxed atmosphere and very professional. The decor was beautiful, the food and service was excellent in quality and presentation. Well done to all staff.
The only minus side was the price of drinks during breaks between the celebration. I know most hotels are higher in price just be ready for this.

This is one of those rare hotels where everything seems to fall into place. Obviously staying in a property of such an age imposes some restrictions on the room sizes and layout, especially in the main house, but even this just adds to the charm of the place.
The staff are exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable.
The restaurant is outstanding and the hotel offers all the facilities one would expect of a superior country house hotel.
The gardens are beautiful and well kept and given the weather during our stay offered a perfect retreat from our busy schedule.
Just two points that need consideration if you are thinking of staying here; firstly the hotel really is quite a distance from anywhere - which is a plus if you are looking for peace and quiet as we were, secondly because of the beauty of the place and the facilities on offer it seems to be very popular for weddings. This makes the hotel very busy at times, although the level of service we received did not suffer as a result.
We are already planning a return visit.

About 60 of us stayed for four nights on a classic car tour of the North East. Four of us had previously visited on a recce (when we made the arrangements for dinner, bed and breakfast for our tour) and enjoyed that visit . The accommodation on the tour was of a very high standard (especially bearing in mind the numbers attending) and the staff went out of their way to ensure that we were well looked after. The spa was a popular addition with many enjoying the facilities and some took advantage of the golf course. We were variously accommodated in the main house and annexes. No complaints. We would all be happy to return.

A lovely hotel, with great rooms (in the main house), lots of charm and a wonderful garden, in a beautiful part of the country. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. Great food, well cooked and lots of it!

Stayed here last Friday for a surprise birthday treat for the wife.

The hotel and the grounds were lovely, managing to keep the 'old fashioned' feel but offering all the modern luxuries.

We stayed in a Spa deluxe room which was spotless, with a balcony overlooking the hotel grounds. The Spa was lovely and the food was amazing.

I would definitely return here. The staff were all friendly and nothing seemed too much.
