Stayed at Carden Park this weekend with a group of friends for a Spa break. Had a wonderful time, ate one evening in the more formal restaurant and also ate in the bar area during the day, had great service and delicous food on both occasions. We decided to go into Chester city centre for our evening meal the next night instead of trying out the less formal retaurant but I would definitely try that out next time as the menu looked fabulous, seemed to have a "gastro pub" vibe. Had an extremely warm welcome on arrival, greeted by a delightful older lady who could not do enough to help us. One of my friends had stayed last year and mentioned some of the courtyard rooms had balcony's and the lady on reception ws more than happy to allocate rooms with balcony's for us so we were absoltely made up. We all thoroughly enjoyed our spa treatments and the pool area was lovely. Can't express what a fantasic weekend was had by all, I'll definitely be staying again, hopefully with my husband and children over the summer holidays.

Extensive grounds and the closest top class venue for the Bolesworth Castle equestrian event. The room was well equipped and comfortable quite small although not air conditioned. No proper shower provided. It was good value and I am sure there are bigger room available at a price. Car parking adequate although better signed from the courtyard area to the designated parking areas would be useful. The service was OK but nothing special probably because the hotel is so large and a golfing centre so it lacked the feel of a top class luxury hotel. The breakfast included with the room rate was superb with a huge choice. Excellent service although area was quite crowded and large. I would highly recommend the hotel for the facilities but needs some smaller reception rooms to cater for those wanting peace and quiet. It had the conference feel about it which may not appeal for all tastes.

Room Tip: Find a room overlooking the park and check for size and a proper shower.

The good points - the grounds are fantastic. Really nice and it looks like plenty to do for families on a nice day. I discussed going back with wife and kids with a friend.
Rooms were spot on. The only fault for our room was that it was so warm we needed to have the window open overnight and the early delivery vehicles woke me up.
I was with a group of 20 lads on a golf weekend. We planned to have a couple of drinks in the hotel but they were so expensive it proved prohibitive. To travel out of the hotel is a good taxi ride to nearest pub/restaurant. It's also a good distance to Chester - but taxi prices were fair (£22 for 4 seater).
On the golf side of things the Cheshire Course was far better than the Nicklaus course.
Spa was nice.
Overall, a nice hotel but a little on the pricey side if you just want a lads golf weekend - which is what the majority of the clientele appeared to be over the weekend we were there.

A friend and I visited Carden Park Hotel yesterday for afternoon tea. Having taken the same some years back and finding it delicious, we thought we were in for the same treat. What a let down !! three finger sandwiches for which you are given the choice of one filling from the menu, a crumbly dry scone, no choice of preserves, small jar of jam and a small triangle of butter (barely enough for one person) sat on top of the fresh cream. The "dainty cakes" were little more than petite fours, three each, very dry, very mundane selection. The coffee however was good. There was no attention paid to the presentation of this meal whatsoever, no special touches, even half a strawberry would have added a little colour to an uninteresting array of food. Expected far better from a hotel of this standard.
Staff were first class and went out of there way with apologies, and to help compensate for our disappointment.
Will not choose to visit again, can only add a waste of money for afternoon tea.

Went with my Friend for afternoon tea today we were very disappointed, the food was very poor not a lot of choice of fillings for sandwiches and not enough sandwiches, the scone was dry and tasteless and whoever thought it was correct to put a knob of butter on top of the pot of cream needs a lesson in the service of food! there wasn't enough butter for two anyway and as for the cakes small and stale. whilst the Staff were very apologetic and compensated us for the poor food we were disappointed that the standard had dropped having been there before and been delighted, Would not recommend the Afternoon Tea there to anyone.
