We booked a Sunday Birthday Lunch for 1.30. When booking the girl seems a little vague, but booked it was. We turned up at 1.25 and told the young lady our reservation. She hesitated and then from out of the back (we were told later, the owner) said we were late, it was booked for 12.30 and we don't hold tables after 12.30, so we could of given it away. I informed it was booked for 1.30, he said this was nonsense as they don't reserve after 12.30. I assured him again we booked at 1.30, but he said he wasn't going to argue with me, but said again the table could of been given away. I looked around the half empty restaurant with some amusement.
Naturally this put a dampener on a Birthday lunch. The bar/waitress staff were clearly embarrassed with his conduct. Perhaps he needs to check with who took the booking before making a fool of himself.
The staff were very attentive throughout the meal and I'd like to thank them for the courtesy they showed.
The meal? Well the Sunday roast had plenty of meat, nicely cooked and nice crunchy homemade roasts, but all the vegetables were soft and they used a factory made Yorkshire pudding. The dessert I had was also not homemade.
So, if you do book for Sunday lunch, make sure it's before 12.30 or risk being shouted at!!
