“Wonderful restaurant”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

My family and I dined at this glorious restaurant twice last week during our holiday to France. The food was superb and the waitresses were delightful and very accommodating. The decor was very crisp and clean cut and the restaurant overlooked the river which was extremely lovely and relaxing whilst we were eating. If we are in the vicinity of here again we shall definitely be back as I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. My two children were given two sweet necklaces after our meal by the charming waitress.

Changes have been made here and there is increased enthusiasm and attention to detail.
I have not stayed there, but noticed some very competitvely priced packages beeing advertised. Rooms with full board, half boeard, breakfast etc., all at very competitive rates.
The restaurant attached to the main hotel is adequate, but the terrace overlooing the river is very pleasant.
The menu is very typical of the area; predominantly cold entrees with simply presented main courses and desserts. Prices very reasonable and a lovely place to spend afew hours over a nice lunch with very pleasant house wine.
Fourth visit to this place; never disappointed. A warning..as with most French establishments the vegetables are very overcooked!!

Situated overlooking the river Sarthe. A fine location. Although the building can look a little bit tired and the rooms a little old fashioned this is typical for France. This is a great location and very good value. Friendly reception either by the owner or the head chef. Very helpful. We asked to change our room to one overlooking the river and with a balcony. This was no problem for them. They also have a superb restaurant just opposite and built out over the river. Could not be a nicer place to dine in the evening, plus the fixed price menus are great value. Rooms are large and comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river and with a balcony. Well worth the small additional cost

We knew not only the previous owners (brother-sister), but their parents.

As others have pointed out, the hotel has barely changed since our earliest vists in the late 1970s, with the exception 15 odd years ago of the river-side conservatory.

The new owners have a lot on their hands to modernise the hotel, but it nonetheless remains as a pleasant hotel, in a lovely position by the river promenade, with willing and pleasant staff and good value for both the room and the food.

We did not spend the night in this hotel as I have a house in the area.

I have been eating at this restaurant for over twenty five years now and for the majority of this time it was owned by a brother and sister partnership with very few changes being made to either the building or the food served. In the summer you ate outside from the grill and in the winter inside from the kitchen.

The new owners have made a significant inprovement to the terraced seating area, overlooking the river, installing heating and air conditioning units enabling it to be used year round. It was a shame that they were not being used to their best the week before last.

I dined on a Friday evening in January with a friend; we were warmly greeted and shown to a table and handed menus. After ordering some drinks and being given some pretzels to nibble on we set about making our selections. Whilst the two set menus appeared to offer good value for money and a reasonable choice, I was a little dissapointed to see that many of the "classic" dishes found in most French eateries were missing.

In the end we both chose entrecote steaks. I asked for a green salad but when it arrived there was little more than a garnish as might be found on most plates. In all fairness I was not charged for the salad, but would have prefered some more leaf. The steaks were well cooked and offered generous portion sizes, with fries to match. Regretfully, my plate was cold upon arrival and with the ambiant temperature being not much more than outside, before too long I was eating cold beef. A shame.

Desert was a chocolate creme brulee, unusual to say the least; served cold with a chewy topping rather than the normal hard caramel it was OK but not to my liking.

The carafe wine offered as good a value as ever and all in all the meal was passable, but no more.

This was another wonderful visit to this lovely situated hotel on the river. Run by brother and sister and young keen professional staff this hotel is one of the friendliest we have ever stayed at. This was not our first stay and will not be our last. The riverside restaurant on the terrace is one of the best experiences ever. Be prepared for those little 'Allo Allo' experiences to make for the holiday you will never forget. We went as a guest the first time and now we go as friends. A beautiful place for a holiday, whether it be a shortbreak or a full summer holiday it never fails to bring something new, the place and the people make it very memorable.
