We had a great week using the flat as our base. Particularly enjoyed our steamer trip on Ullswater, visits to the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, the museum at Coniston, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin's houses, some lovely walks and of course the beautiful lakes. The flat had everything we needed for a lovely week's holiday. We were also blessed with great holiday weather!
The views were what sold us. We used this as our base to tour the Lake District and also enjoyed just relaxing and looking out the window. The condo had all we needed except a clothes dryer. We loved our tour of the nearby Dalemain estate and enjoyed a quick visit with the owners as we strolled the grounds. Be sure to visit the Beckstone Art Gallery near/in Greystoke - one of the best galleries we have ever visited. We definitely recommend staying at The Garden Flat.
Compact and bijou is probably an overworked cliché, however this rental is just that.
Of course it has some flaws but nothing that I need to mention, it would be churlish to mention them.
The bathroom...with a bath...is spacious, the bedroom isn't so 'roomy' but you go in you get in bed and you sleep and then you wake up get up and enjoy your breakfast looking over the valley with Ullswater beckoning below.
There are sufficient places to eat nearby but at any time of the year eating in and enjoying the view is a great option.
Close to Aira Force waterfall, Pooley Bridge and of course the water, you can walk the fells, paddleboard, take the steamer to Glenridding or just have afternoon tea and wander around the village...it's not huge...but it has charm.
I would return at the drop of a hat.
This gets 4 stars because of the stunning view over Ullswater - which we suspect couldn't be better from anywhere else. The flat is fine, and generally comfortable and well equipped with everything you'd need. The bedroom is at the rear of the flat and very dark, and just on the edge of being a bit musty- but you can lie in bed and see the view. A summer weight (and non-allergenic) duvet would enhance it, as would a decent set of kitchen knives. Lots of interesting local historic houses and gardens kept us well- occupied, as did a trip on the Steamers on the Lake, and a walk around its shores. The theatre in Keswick was brilliant and there are lots of great places to eat. If you want a base for the North Eastern Lakes, and somewhere to sit and soak up the view, this is good place to come.
The garden flat was an ideal base for exploring the lakes. The views were spectacular from the window and the flat had everything in it you might need. It was very peaceful but not too far from a village with pubs, cafes and small shops.
The location is stunning and the flat just lovely. We enjoyed the peace, quiet and wonderful views across the lake. Pooley bridge is a little rural village, but we were able to enjoy a drink in the pub and a good breakfast in the cafe. For anything else we needed to travel but the details of the booking made this expected. I believe there is a footpath to the village but we did not try this route. The written directions are essential as the sat nav take you to far up the hill. My lasting memory is sitting on the bench with a cup of tea in the manicured garden.
