“Lovely food and service great place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

I have been for a few sunday lunches with work friends to the Kincraig. £14 for a 3 course lunch was excellent value, the menu always has some great choices in fact it is hard to decide what to have which is a good sign. The service has always been excellent very short waiting time and the waitresses are friendly and polite. The castle itself is beautiful, very relaxing and gorgeous views. It was nice relaxing in the comfy sofas after the lunch for a coffee and chat. Will definitely be going back there for lunch well recommended

“The times they are a changin'”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2014

We have eaten at Kincraig Castle Hotel many times and always had an enjoyable experience. Towards the end of last year we heard the hotel had changed hands. So we were looking forward to see what if any changes had been made. So we booked a table for Sunday lunch. We arrived ten minutes before our reservation time but knew we could sit, relax and wait for our table. The building is lovely with beautiful public rooms. A little tatty on the outside but nothing wrong with a little faded elegance. We were shown into the sitting room by a roaring fire and asked if we would like a drink. After a little while a waitress came out with our drinks and asked the lady that had shown us in who the drinks were for. She told the waitress those two there! As the service on our previous visits had been so good, friendly and polite we were a little surprised by the abruptness. We were given the menu and it looked very good apart from the soup de jour on a dated menu? Why not write the type of soup, it would save us having to ask. I chose the Crayfish Cocktail and my wife chose the Crisp Confit Pork Belly.
My crayfish in a rich tomato sauce tasted exactly like a product available in a jar at Tesco. The cripy confit pork belly was about one inch square and 80% of it was fat. There was no apple sauce as the menu.
Main course which we had to wait a long time for. My beef was good, the potatoes and parsnip had been really over cooked although the sugar snap peas were good. Strangly the potatoes and vegetables had been hidden under the meat which left one third of the plate empty. In fact we thought they were going to bring out a dish of vegetables, they didn't. The supreme of chicken bound in a pastry was a disaster. It was so overcooked it was all the same brown colour and dry and tasteless. The vegetables were the same as mine, poor.
Pudding. My wife had the cheese and biscuits and for the price they were perfect. I had the Chocolate Tort. The pastry was like concrete, it was suppose to come with Cherry Water Ice it came with mint and chocolate ice cream and no explanation. We went through for coffee in the sitting room. Cona coffe is just about exceptable when freshly made.
To maintain the high standard this hotel had the new owners are going to have to up their game considerably.
An extremely dissappointing experience as our previous visits had been so good. With one or two exceptions the food was poor. The service was abrupt and poor. They had obviously been told to say as they served each dis in a sing song voice "Enjoy" If only this had been possible.

“Superb dining experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2013

It's been 7 years since my last visit to the Kincraig and what a wonderful experience it was.
The whole experience from sitting in the beautiful lounge by a roaring real fire surrounded by the wood panelled walls and sculpted ceilings whilst perusing the menu and wine list... The attention paid to us by the staff... The meal in the restaurant and the coffee afterwards sat by the Christmas tree was just superb.
The quality of the food is the best I have experienced in many years and equal to their sister hotel (Cuillin Hills) on the Isle of Skye.
I can wholeheartedly recommend the Kincraig Castle Hotel Restaurant. You will NOT be disappointed.
