we stopped off here on route to the Isle of Arran. We felt lucky to have found this place-despite a very late check in, the receptionist was very polite and friendly. We managed to have a drink before the bar closed and sat on the lovely comfy sofas in reception/drawing room. Our room was dog friendly and clean although there was an expected amount of wear and tear on the carpets. a lovely doggie welcome pack consisting of bed and bowl with a bag of treats was in our room on arrival which was a lovely surprise. The beds were really comfy.
The surrounding gardens are beautiful and the following morning we managed to have a stroll there. The most pleasant surprise for us was breakfast the next morning in a bright dining room with nice views. Instead of the usual hot plates you would expect in a 3 star hotel the food was prepared fresh to order. the haggis was tremendous! The breakfast staff were attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
we would definitely stay her again....

Booked via a group on and it was more than worth the money. Would be happy to go back on a non group on visit.
The food was fantastic and I would recommend the generous cheese board. One of our elements on the main course had ran out and they kindly offered a drink as a substitute...we were fine with this substitute!
The chesterfields in the lounge with the log fire was just what we were after for a rexaling weekend and spent hours there.
One slight critique is that the bathroom door stuck and was very difficult to open, also the grout is looking like it needs to be redone in some areas.
But still very charming place :)

We booked a Groupon two night stay which was (surprisingly) honoured over the Easter weekend (Sunday and Monday). The hotel is set in a beautiful location and has a lovely ambience. Food and service were excellent and the bar prices reasonable. We wholeheartedly agree with the other positive reviews of this establishment and have no hesitation in also recommending it if you intend visiting this part of Scotland.

Enjoyed a two night Groupon break at this lovely hotel. Views down to the river Nith are stunning from front of the hotel. We arrived early for check in; however staff were very welcoming and provided us with coffee in the beautiful lounge which is wood panelled with an inglenook fireplace which was blazing! There are multiple chesterfield sofas and coffee tables. A very pleasant place to sit. When our room was ready our luggage was taken up to the room by the receptionist. This was a pleasant surprise as it is the first time this has been offered in a hotel in many, many years! The room was comfortable and clean but had no view to the beautiful grounds but this did not bother us! Dinner was excellent, beautifully presented, full of flavour and large portions. Staff were even able to provide gluten free bread! Breakfast was also very good and staff were pleasant obliging. On the second night we had the Lounge Menu, which was also served in the dining room as we had had a meal during the day. This was great value for money and more than we expected.

The only negative was mould growing on the tiles around the shower area of the bath, such a shame as otherwise everything was clean!

Altogether we very much enjoyed our stay which was great value on a Groupon deal and would stay there again!

Room Tip: Try to have a room overlooking the front of the hotel!

Just returned from a 2 night stay here. The house and gardens are stunning. Front of house staff were very friendly and attentive. Check in was quick and a nice welcome. The room had no view, however as we were on a Groupon deal we couldn't complain. The room was adequate, however the bath panel was badly broken and could easily have caused injury.

Food both in the restaurant and from the bar menu was excellent, however service from the kitchen was very slow. This was also the case at breakfast. On our first night there was food on the floor at the side of our table. Unfortunately this was still there when we checked out 2 days later.

Overall there needs to be more attention to detail and a speedier service from the kitchen and this hotel could rate so much better.

Just returned from a lovely night at Friars Carse Country Hotel. We booked this through Groupon and was pleased to find a beautiful room, clean and tidy.
Sadly it rained during our visit otherwise I would have loved to walk the grounds, it s really is a lovely setting.
We dined in the restaurant where I found the menu to be a bit extravagant for my tastes thankfully they were introducing a lounge menu the following week and kindly let me order from that.
I would definitely go back. Thanks for a lovely stay.

We had a two night break with our dog and we were all made to feel very welcome. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly. Our dog was allowed in the beautiful lounge so we ate there rather than leave him in the bedroom. We can't understand some of the other negative remarks about the food as we both thought it was excellent - in fact one of the best meals that we have had recently. One suggested improvement - the current menu folder needs updated to include prices, dessert menu and separate lounge menu, which is only displayed in the folder in the bedrooms.
Being a small hotel, the ambiance in the lounge and bar was very sociable with casual chat between fellow guests adding to the friendly atmosphere.
Yes - some parts of the bedroom could be upgraded eg the windows, but this is an old building, full of character so some allowances need to be made for this.
The grounds are very beautiful - such a pity that the weather was so poor and the paths very muddy - we must return when there is a chance of some sunshine.....
