We stayed here on the 27th of May for one night, we had a lovely time, the hotels surroundings are lovely, the rooms are a little tired and bathrooms need updating, and our bed was a little small, my feet hung off the end :-) but I would stay again, also I must mention the food which was totally delicious !!!! Also the whole place was very clean couldn't fault that

Room Tip: Ask for a bigger bed :-)

Lovely place. Friendly staff, enjoy a pint in the great hall and a lovely breakfast in a great atmosphere.
This castle like building lies in a loverly forest with great walks to a river and other atractions related to the famous author David Burns.

A wonderful setting for a fabulous hotel and a great start to our stay.

The evening meal was lovely and the service good. We were surrounded my moaners but generally it was a pleasant evening.

However there were a few points that stopped it being the perfect stay.

The grout in the bathroom was disgusting, I didn't want to stand on it.

Both breakfasts were disorganised, the choice was small and the poor girl serving was rushed off her feet. We didn't get what we ordered as they had run out, the alternative came raw. The continental breakfast was terrible, three cereals or three choices of fruit. Croissants the first morning, but not enough for everyone and the second morning they hadn't arrived.

Saying that the rest of our room was good and as I said previously the evening meal was lovely.

Would I stay there again?
I have no idea is the answer, which isn't a no.

Bought a deal for a single nights stay here that included a three course dinner with credit towards a bottle of wine and full scottish breakfast.

The hotel is in a beautiful location right next to the river and fortunately for us the sun shone for the evening of our arrival. The food provided was excellent both for dinner and breakfast - have not felt so stuffed in a while!

The accommodation whilst functional could do with sprucing up a little. Wallpaper is peeling away and cobwebs are visible in various locations

On the whole though very pleased and will hopefully visit again in the future.

Room Tip: If you can, request a room facing over the gardens to the river.

lovely hotel in beautiful grounds but could do with some updating. I have given this hotel a "very good " rating but only because the food was excellent and the service was first class. our room was large but very tired and the bathroom tiny with a very noisy cistern every time it was flushed. there was no happy medium with the shower, it was either scalding hot or icy cold so we were happy it was only a two day stay or we would have smelled as bad as some of the dogs that apparently "holidayed" at the same time as us. staying here felt as if we had stayed in a kennel (6 dogs in these two days) to be fair the hotel is advertised as being animal friendly but if you don't want lots of dog smell then don't book this hotel. it was already booked for us so we had no choice

Room Tip: we stayed in room pine. this one had the noisy cistern and the unworkable shower

Fabulous hotel in the most wonderful surroundings.
Food was great & staff were wonderful.
Take your walking boots, the countryside aroung the hotel is perfect for a bit of rambling!
Will return soon I hope.

Room Tip: We were in Pine, it has beautiful views. Toilet a little noisy when flushed didnt bother us, just a...

My partner and I (together with our dog) recently spent 3 nights at Friars Carse, after having previously experienced the other Hotels run by Classic Hotels i.e Waterhead (Coniston) and Dumbleton Hall (Evesham). We had no complaints whatever. The hotel is in a beautiful location with its own salmon river running through the estate. Room was spotless and they had even taken the trouble of putting a new dog bed, water bowl and treats in the room for our dog. Naturally, we couldn't take our dog into the dining room (we wouldn't have expected to do so anyway). When we had our evening dinner, a table was laid for us in a room they use for smaller wedding functions. The table was in front of a bay window which had lovely views of the river, and we were treated to a lovely candlelit dinner - with the dog lying at our feet. We also had the option of having our dinner in the bar lounge. Also, the staff at all levels are polite and friendly. We highly recommend this hotel, as we do the other two hotels.

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor, overlooking the river. Gorgeous view.
