Ideal Place, friendly staff, great food, our Pet was welcomed and had treats and a bed given as part of the package. We booked via groupon and got a great deal. What more can you ask for! had a fantastic stay and the weather was great too

On arrival lovely scenery, grounds and what a beautiful looking building from the outside. On entering you find yourself in a old style lounge which although a bit tired you feel is in keeping with place. This is however where the good ends! The stairs up to the bedrooms were filthy with mud on the carpet, carpets old and threadbare. Then enter the rooms oh my goodness this is a punishment to stay here, the room had cracks in the walls and ceiling, damp in the corner, the oldest bathroom and shower in the world. The shower had barely enough pressure to wash in at one point I contemplated using the sink to rinse my hair! The water also likes to play a game with you of scald then freeze so you develop a knack of showering in under two mins! Then breakfast disgusting! Cheap poor quality produce and staff that generally don't have a clue, dirty uncleared tables greet you in the morning, then when your eventually served they like to bring tea and coffee without milk (both days) and toast without butter having to request these which then took an age to obtain by then both toast and tea cold. To make matters worse the boy serving had dreadful body odour on both days so did not make for a pleasant breakfast!

All in all the hotel is in dire need of an upgrade from decor to basics like heating and plumbing and a new chef who demands better quality ingredients and soap and deodorant for staff. Would not recommend and would not consider staying here again until some serious work is done. Such a shame as it's in beautiful grounds.

Stayed for 2 days with friends. Our suite looked over the lawns to the river and had a huge bathroom with a bath a football team would have been happy with. Had some lovely meals and a couple of games of snooker in the evening, felt like lords of the manor. Sat on the lawn with our wives and drinks and watched 3 red squirrels chasing each other. Full Scottish breakfast in the mornings meant we forgo lunch and took our time touring around the Solway Coast. A very enjoyable trip which we will definitely be doing again.

My daughter is getting married here next year, so we wanted to come and try the food. The hotel has a fantastic atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and polite! We took my husband for Father's Day. The menu was great, not too much choice, but what was on I would of chosen it all. In the end I had the smoked salmon followed by the belly pork, omg it was fantastic, I could not eat it all and wanted to finish it as the flavours were just amazing, rest of family had soup then roast beef. Thank you for a fantastic meal. We look forward to the 2015 wedding and sampling your delights again.

Room Tip: Not stayed here yet, but had a tour of rooms, which look fantastic. The ones we saw were very big. C...

We stayed here on the 27th of May for one night, we had a lovely time, the hotels surroundings are lovely, the rooms are a little tired and bathrooms need updating, and our bed was a little small, my feet hung off the end :-) but I would stay again, also I must mention the food which was totally delicious !!!! Also the whole place was very clean couldn't fault that

Room Tip: Ask for a bigger bed :-)

Lovely place. Friendly staff, enjoy a pint in the great hall and a lovely breakfast in a great atmosphere.
This castle like building lies in a loverly forest with great walks to a river and other atractions related to the famous author David Burns.

A wonderful setting for a fabulous hotel and a great start to our stay.

The evening meal was lovely and the service good. We were surrounded my moaners but generally it was a pleasant evening.

However there were a few points that stopped it being the perfect stay.

The grout in the bathroom was disgusting, I didn't want to stand on it.

Both breakfasts were disorganised, the choice was small and the poor girl serving was rushed off her feet. We didn't get what we ordered as they had run out, the alternative came raw. The continental breakfast was terrible, three cereals or three choices of fruit. Croissants the first morning, but not enough for everyone and the second morning they hadn't arrived.

Saying that the rest of our room was good and as I said previously the evening meal was lovely.

Would I stay there again?
I have no idea is the answer, which isn't a no.
