“West Highland Way”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

Stayed here for 1 night while walking the West Highland Way, a great location. The room was on the small size but fine for the one night, views were great from the chair in the window. The room and ensuite was very clean, tidy and well equipped. The whole hotel was very nice and had been on this site for over 300 years.
As its so remote there is really no where else to go for our evening meal. You get given a tick sheet when you arrive to select your evening meal and the time you would like it served. A really good idea and worked well. The evening meal was really nice wholesome food with plenty of fresh vegetables.
The staff were very welcoming and attentive and there was a good atmosphere.
I would have rated it excellent but for cost which I feel was a little high at £94, but apart from that I would definitely look to stay with them again.

4 of stayed in this wonderful spot for 1 night during our WHW walk. The approach over and down the hill to the hotel is stunning as here are views all rouund including along Loch Tulla. The welcome was warm, though 2 of us who'd arrived later than our friends felt a bit hassled having to make decisions about dinner when all we wanted there and then was tea and a beer respectively. However, staff were cheerful and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were very comfortable and perfectly adequate for one night's stay, with great views. The bar was cosy and warm and we loved the "cartoon" of the WHW and it's characters painted around the walls. Dinner was delicious and breakfast for me in particular was the best I had during our walk. Why? because the staff listened to how I liked my bacon and sausage cooked and it arrived just so. Thank you again chef.

We stayed at this hotel after walking and found it to be set in beautiful surrounding, the staff are pleasant and helpful. Our room was well equipped, however a little on the small side for us. The views from the window were fabulous though

The evening meal and the breakfast here were both of a good standard and fresh, much enjoyed. The hotel is remotely situated without transport so option to eat elsewhere are limited, although there is no need as the menu is extensive

Stayed overnight during our West Highland Way walk. Great location in middle of nowhere! Friendly reception. Double room on ground floor was a bit small, but comfortable enough, and views out of the window to passing deer, also a woodpecker, were great.

We had arranged to eat at the hotel (there is nowhere else around) and this is where the service was a bit haphazard, eg they had not pre-chilled any white wine. We had to choose our meal after arrival, also the time slot - this wasn't a problem as we arrived in the afternoon, but it's something to think of if you're going to arrive late. Tasty dinner, although the salmon was overcooked and the veg undercooked! Puds were good.

Breakfast was good, but again service was lacking. A young girl (maybe new?) kept crossing through the dining room but not noticing anything, ie the coffee had run out, plates needed removing from our small table. In the end, we didn't have time to wait for the new brew of coffee. Maybe staff need a bit more training.

Although there are only 9 rooms for residents, the bar itself was busy with walkers and had a good atmosphere.

Brilliant location, but could be rather better than it is at the price.

After our fifth day of walking the WHW we had a very warm welcome by Gavin and Elaine.
I couldn't resist to at least eat Haggis once on this Scotland Visit, and as Elaine serves only fresh made Dinner, this seemed to be just the right opportunity.
I can definitely recommend the Haggis Neeps and Tatties.
After that, we visited the deer behind the hotel before having a wee dram of whisky from the very good collection in the Bar.
Extremely friendly staff. Nice room, great breakfast. We were best prepared for our next walk to Kinlochleven.

We stayed here as part of our West Highland Way walk. It was booked via Absolute Escapes, who informed the hotel of our vegan dietary requirements well in advance. As advised, we contacted the hotel at 7pm to inform them that we were running late and would hopefully be arriving approx within 15- 20 minutes time, only to be informed that last orders for food was at 7.30pm. We tried to pre-order our food over the phone, only to be offered quiche! When we arrived, the receptionist (who was lovely, helpful and friendly) got the cook to come and speak to us. Her manner wasn't so friendly and although she'd been pre-informed of our diet, she hadn't even bothered to look into an alternative for us. In the end to keep the peace, we settled for a bowl of soup and a plate of over-boiled vegetables each. Add the cost of an alcoholic beverage, each, onto the bill and we were charged a hefty £27+.
The hotel itself, although requiring a bit of renovation, was clean and comfortable and in a beautiful remote location.
The sad situation is that it's a bad example of the hospitality I know Scotland is capable of. To stop serving meals at 7.30pm when it's guests are probably predominantly made up of West Highland Way walkers is poor. There is nowhere else in the vicinity to eat, so I assume that late arrivals go without. Every other accommodation we stayed at served food until 9.30pm but still offered to rustle something up for people who missed the deadline. The Inveroran Hotel could learn a lot from this.

We stopped here on day 5 of our walk along the WHW, just for lunch in the small bar out back rather than accommodation.
Very friendly service and very good food (I had the cauliflower soup with a cheese & ham hoagie), supplemented with some good ales, albeit bottled.
Although there are no other options nearby, they do not appear to take this built-in advantage for granted.
