“Lovely family hotel!”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

We have just returned from a great few days in the Hotel Port Dinorwic. As soon as we entered the front door Mandy and Isabella were extremely friendly and made us all feel very at home. Room 12 was more than adequate for the party we had travelling, and it provided us with everything that we needed! The pool was also an added bonus for me and my brother! Overall, it was a lovely stay and we'd all be more than happy to return in the future!

We have just had a lovely visit to Hotel Port Dinorwic. We were greeted with warmth by Mandy and soon after we met the owner, Isabel. What a lovely, lovely lady with her 'tantalising' humour! We both really enjoyed our stay - truly warm, friendly and genuine people. Great location for where we planned to visit during our trip.

Just stayed at the hotel for 4 nights with my husband and 15 year old daughter in Room 3. We had a lovely time here. This is the sort of hotel where you feel at home from the minute you arrive. The family are all lovely and have lots of local knowledge, nothing was too much trouble for them. We really liked the decor and found it extremely clean. Room 3 has a stunning view out to the straits. As tall people, perhaps we could have done with a larger double bed in the main room but we should have checked this before booking. The bathroom was also a little cramped for 3 of us but everything worked fine. My daughter liked having her own little sleeping area. We used the bar on several occasions and loved the relaxed atmosphere. The pool is shallow and on the cooler side but perfectly usable for a quick dip. Towels were provided by the pool and there was a shower and changing cubicles.

By the time we left the hotel we felt we knew all the staff and were completely at home. It is so rare to feel this way in many modern, purpose built hotels. So if you like somewhere a little quirky and like to talk to a few 'locals', this is the place to go. The location of the hotel is also perfect for Anglesey and Snowdonia. A fabulous pub/bistro is within walking distance on the sea front.

Room Tip: Room 3 has an excellent view. Only a shower in this room, no bath.

Our family had a great stay at the "Pink Palace", up in the penthouse. The location is the best around, opt for a room facing the Menia Strait, the view is stunning!
The staff were excellent, couldn't be more helpful, from Mandy and Hayden in reception, to the lovely lady who served us breakfast (the owner I believe), talk about a wonderful sense of humour, genuine Welsh hospitality.
We chose to have dinner in the restaurant, which ended up being the best meal so far in the UK, and the breakfast choice, even the more humble continental level had a huge selection on offer. I noticed a recent poster mentioned "sparse", I counted ten cereal options, multiple juices, croissants, crumpets, breads, freshly brewed coffee etc....
The room was generously spacious, clean and comfortable. A few things could have described as "tired", but everything else well and truly covered any aesthetic issues.

To top off the whole Menai Strait experience, we went for a fascinating and thrilling ride with Richard from SeaWake in a rigid inflatable boat. These guys are the original operators of this type of boat in the strait, Richard is a real "old salt" with plenty of amusing stories to tell about the area, well worth the expense and something you'll not forget in a hurry!

Well done Port Dinorwic, we will certainly be back.

Room Tip: First floor and above with view of the Menai Strait

The 3 bed apartment was nice and the view was lovely of the Menai Straits. Cooked breakfast was excellent though the continental one was a little sparse. Staff were very friendly and the swimming pool was uncovered just for us. A few minor niggles. No wine glasses in the kitchen which could do with a bit of an update. Window frames have been stained and the glass could do with scraping. Would stay here again

Strange experience. Very tired and shabby but clean. Nice view. Surroundings a bit grotty to be honest. Strangest thing was the bathroom in the middle of the bedroom! Also the door didn't shut properly and you could see through it so I wouldn't advise it for a mini break early in a relationship as it leaves nothing to the imagination with absolutely no privacy! Pool would have been lovely but freezing and oddly located just off the bar area. Breakfast room pleasant with a view. Restaurant looked utterly grim so we went out. Bar looked depressing and dark. Staff lovely kind helpful. I wouldn't stay again unless we got a bargain price and needed that location. I certainly wouldn't go because it was a hotel with a pool (reason for booking) as it's too freezing to be enjoyed. So noisy at night couldn't sleep a wink. Noise overhead deafening and cars in and out of the gravel driveway crunching in and out at all hours of the night. Room boiling hot, window wouldn't stay open so no ventilation. Overpriced I think. They are dining out on their lovely view but need to pull the rest of the hotel and experience up to match the view.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view as it's the only thing going for it! Bathroom in room 3 door doesn't close...

We stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting Wales to go to Zip World. The staff were brilliant, in fact probably the friendliest staff I have ever come across in a hotel. The hotel itself was everything we needed and we stayed in the Tower top deck which had amazing views and was very quirky. If we go back we will definitely stay there again.
