Stayed here 12.7.14 after end of first leg of cycle from North to South Wales.
not booked, was recommended it by a local B and B who were full. Think we were only people stopping over, they put our bikes safe in their locked garage. Gave us the big room double, single and bunk bed with en-suite.
Food was excellent and staff very helpful. Likewise breakfast was great, could not do enough for you.
Would stay there again for value, service and food quality.

We visited this hotel for a lunchtime snack, what a snack, we decided on a ploughman's, 2 slices of ham, a big chunk of cheese, coleslaw, pickle & fresh salad, all served with some rather good brown bread & butter, plus a cup of coffee, welcoming & pleasant staff, all for a total of £13.60 for the two of us, good value for money in my book, thanks ladies, you saved our day. it was 10pm that night before we ate again (travelling home).

THIS IS A RESTAURANT REVIEW ONLY AS WE HAVE NOT STAYED HERE. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A PLACE TO MAKE A SEPARATE ENTRY.

Llew Coch (Red Lion) is a genuine and traditional village inn that has not succumbed to modernization and “improvements”. It lies in the heart of Dinas Mawddwy, nestling comfortably and real in its ‘Wild Wales’ surroundings of mountain, forest and river. Nothing glossy here, just the epitome of a hard, organic beauty naturally evolved. A warm welcome awaits inside Llew Coch and we enjoyed the friendly, freely offered inclusive conversation of the barmaid and the handful of locals who stopped by in-passing for a lunch time pint or a coffee and natter.

Lunch at Llew Coch is chosen from a good size selection on an unpretentious menu of pub food classics with local twists thrown in here and there. We both had the homemade Welsh lamb and leek pie. The meat was tender, clearly slow-cooked, and the suet style pastry perfectly suited the dish and the autumnal day. Accompanying vegetables were both a nice selection and well prepared. Plans to sample desserts were sunk by the generously proportioned and very tasty mains. Our bill left worthwhile change from a £20 note well spent.

So, the food offered at Llew Coch is both good value and of a substantial homely quality. The atmosphere is provided courtesy of genuine old wooden beams, well worn tables and countless horse brasses all delivered up in their correct and naturally aged environment. Service is like wandering into a friend’s kitchen for a chat. A highly recommended example of the ‘real deal’!

Sometimes I'd like to see the two separated, and then again, people don't pay attention and put the reviews everywhere. To be clear, this review is for the restaurant portion, and not the B&B portion. I stayed somewhere in the local area, and only ate at The Red Lion.

First of all, I have to compliment and thank the staff for being accommodating. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we arrived at our B&B later than expected, and thus had a late dinner. Unfortunately, we arrived at our B&B at about 8:50, and were informed that most places stop serving food at 9. Well, our B&B owner called ahead, and even though we arrived between 9:05 and 9:10, they still had the kitchen open for us! So thank you so much for serving us!

Second, the food was really good! The ale was good, and all was well. This is a true "small town" local pub if I've ever seen one! It was interesting to look at the pictures on the wall of what the town looked like many years ago, and the maps of the local area.

If you're traveling through and in need of a place to eat, I'd suggest The Red Lion to anyone! Besides, as an American traveling through Wales, it was good to eat at a place called The Red Lion. It just made sense! :)

Stayed here again, this weekend. We got the usual warm welcome from the staff and were quickly laughing with the locals.
The beer was as excellent as always and when the food was served (outside in the sun) it was better than I remembered. It was fantastic. We had a number of different dishes between us, they all arrived together and everyone commented on its quality (and quantity). I personally had the 'T' bone this time, it was a stunning slab of meat.
Great nights sleep was had by all.
Breakfast was terrific,
Really worth calling this place and if they've got a room, give it a try.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are over the bar area, so if you want an early night when the bar's busy, it...

Visited the Red Lion for sunday lunch. The pub was buzzing with activity but the food was served in a quick and fuss free manner. Fantastic beef which just fell apart, a wide selection of veg with generous helpings and brilliant service. Deserts were well presented with plenty of choice. Well worth a visit and exceptional value. I highly recommend this pub and it puts a lot of its rivals to shame.
