“great festive atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2007

We booked a New Year's Eve all inclusive package. I was a bit worried as it was amongst the cheapest at this very expensive time of year, but my fears proved unfounded as we had a great time.
A traditional countryside hotel(main building is Georgian grade II listed) south of Chester, just into Wales, near Rossett. Plenty of onsite parking.
The hotel was bedecked in seasonal decor, very atmospheric. Staff were friendly, helpful & efficient despite working on New year's Eve!
Most of the rooms are in a modern annexe connected at the side/rear of the main building. Reasonable sized room was clean & fresh feeling with LCD tv, wireless internet, etc.
Food quality and drink service were excellent, though this was in a party atmosphere, so no experience of the normal restaurant service.

Keeping in mind that this is a 2 star property, I have rated it above average for that type.
From the exterior the hotel appears like a traditional style hotel often found in small towns throughout the UK. The building does have an extension which is more modern in architecture, but doesn't seem to clash too much with the original building.
The common areas of the main building are furnished traditonally and are quite attractive and cozy.
The room that I was in (a standard double) was in the original building and was large in size with quite a large and bright bathroom. The spread on the bed had seen better days and the carpet could be replaced, but certainly nothing that can't be overlooked (no stains or tears, just a little tired looking).
I did have the opportunity to see 3 other rooms (two in the original building), one much larger than mine with a small sitting area and one much smaller than mine (also a standard double). The latter I would not have wanted to stay in at all (small and dark) so it may be worthwhile to book rooms here above their "standard" room category if you want to be sure of some extra space. The third room was in the newer wing of the hotel and was quite large. It rather reminded me of a room you might find in a Holiday Inn in the US.
There is a restaurant at Rossett Hall; the cooked breakfast was fine, and I did have a dinner there that was good as well.
The reception service was excellent with friendly staff who, if they didn't have the answer to a question, went out of their way to find someone who did.
The hotel is within walking distance (or as one of my travelling companions said - crawling distance) of a couple of pubs and while I didn't have a chance to check them out, others in my party did and said they were quite fun and the food was good.
The hotel is a good location for visits to Chester and the area as well as Northern Wales.
I would recommend this hotel for singles, couples and families who are looking for good accommodation at a moderate price in a quiet area. Business travellers with laptops or notebooks will be happy to hear that they have recently introduced wireless throughout the hotel, a real treat in a non-urban area!
