The castle overlooks the town from the west and has stunning views to he countryside beyond. You can stroll up the very steep road behind the town hall, or follow the path beside the excellent hardware shop, Brunner's.

Well worth visiting while in the lovely little town.

“Worth a visit for the view alone!”

Quirky remains of a castle perched high above Montgomery with a fabulous panoramic view looking North towards Welshpool. Well done to Cadw for erecting interpretation panels and maintaining the remains and surrounds to a high standard!

“As far as the eye can see”

This is probably the best ruined castle that I have ever visited, and would be an excellent site to help teach children what castles were all about.

A good day out, with an excellent picnic site.

Would recommend it to all ages.

Stunning views from the top but not much left after Cromwell knocked it about a bit. So just worth a quick visit

“Romantic Ruin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2014

Set on an outcrop which dominates the Severn and Camlad valleys, Montgomery Castle is one of the secret treasures of the Welsh Marches. The stunnings view across a wide valley to volcano-ish Corndon Hill (1800ft) make this a delight for landscape photographers! A walk up to the castle followed by a cream tea in Castle Kitchen is a quintessential British afternoon out. Highly recommended.
