Just had very enjoyable three day break in this gem of a hotel. Every body was so kind and helpful and the accommodation and food was excellent. I will certainly be telling evert Bobby about this lovely old hotel.

Spent an enjoyable couple of days walking the Offa's Dyke path and the Kerry ridgeway with my girlfriend. I knew of the Dragon Hotel only from having taken a meal there, some 10 years previously.
Was pleased to get a double room at quite late notice, and over Easter for what seemed a reasonable £49 room only
Checking in was friendly an unfussy, receptionist was quite happy to check with the chamber maid, to accommodate us a little earlier than the norm. Room was in keeping with the architecture of the building, charming and characterful, but spotlessly clean, and really comfy mattress on the bed.
Felt ravenous on our return, from an afternoon stroll on the ODP and booked a table for dinner. Bit of a mix up on the reservation time, but very well handled by the restaurant manager. Enjoyed a hearty evening meal, steak and ale pie being particularly enjoyable for myself, and my partners, lamb curry was wolfed down......:)
Most enjoyable stay, real gem of a building, friendly and attentive staff, what's not to like.

My boyfriend and I stayed overnight here at the end of April due to needing to be in the area for the weekend.

When we arrived we were checked in quickly and given the key to our room and confirmed our reservation for dinner. On arrival to the room we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room. We had requested a premier room, and it was a large and spacious as we'd hoped. It was extremely clean and tidy; and the bed was extremely comfortable too.

We then had a little explore of the village and headed up to the castle on the top of the hill, where we were greeted with fantastic views, definitely worth a visit, though maybe drive up as it's a very steep incline.

After that we decided to head back to the hotel for a swim, in the lovely (if a little cold) swimming pool. The pool was furnished in a lovely and clean manner with good amenities.

The food in the restaurant was cooked beautifully and the staff were extremely pleasant, both morning and evening.

The only downside to our stay was the fact the walls were quite thin meaning that we were woken up by the (not so) charming children in the room next to us at 7.15am on the Sunday morning. Even though my boyfriend can sleep through an earthquake and I was using ear plugs they still managed to wake us, and ensured we were awake until we checked out at 11. The other problem, that didn't bother us, but I know would bother some, was we struggled to connect to the wifi and when we did it dropped out a lot.

I definitely wouldn't hesitate to stay in this hotel again if I were to ever need to be in the area again. A lovely weekend (even if it lacked a bit of sleep!)

Stayed for one night whilst walking the Offa's Dyke Path.
Decor was a bit dated and the room was starting to look a bit scruffy, we also struggled to connect to Wi-Fi in the room but there was no problem in the pub itself.
The room was a good size with plenty of space for bags it also had tea and coffee making facilities and a hairdryer, the bathroom was spacious and despite being attached to a pub there was little noise disturbance.
Food was excellent (both dinner and breakfast).

Montgomery is a beautiful place, full of Georgian and Timber Framed buildings and a delightful mix of shops.
We stayed at the Dragon for the third time in the last eighteen months. The new proprietors are working hard to upgrade the facilities and the rooms while preserving the character and ambience. Our room with it's oak beams was spotlessly clean. All the staff old and new are extremely pleasant.
We ate in the Restaurant on both evenings of our stay and found the food and the experience very pleasant.
We are looking forward to our next visit to this delightful hotel.

Montgomery is best described as a one horse town, but it does have another pub as well as an Indian Restuarant and a fantastic small museum. But then the hotel..... Very much mixed feelings, the room was clean, spacious reasonably appointed but in some way old fashioned. Not enough to complain about but I feel if you were not used to old English hotels you would have a moan. Talking of moaning here I go! Room 16, if you are offered it refuse it unless you are deaf! The first problem is the main door to the hotel, although its on a closer, it bangs. And shakes the window above it... the window in room 16. Now this would not be a problem if you retire after 11.30pm as most of the hotel bar guests have gone by then but if you try and sleep before that time, you will have difficulty.

Now the main one, creaky floor boards, and when I say creakly... my other half is a very heavy sleeper and they even woke her up. Obviously it depends on who is staying in the room above but I think in our case it must have been a pair of incontinent elephants. Moving around throughout the night and disturbing our sleep.

When mentioned all I got was a shrug of the shoulder from the receptionist.

So over all apart from the noise I would stay at the hotel again (not in room 16), but having spent half an hour exploring Montgomery, I would not necessary go back there.

One other gripe, if the hotel put out bottled water for the first night, why do they not replace for the second, they dont reduce the tarrif for the second night?

Breakfast was good, 8/10

Room Tip: Not room 16 or indeed any at the front of the building as there is the Town hall clock just outside...

Everything was perfect, the location is great just below the castle and in a quiet location with a village clock the finishing touch!, the hotel is quirky but fun and the staff are so friendly and the food for breakfast and on the evening is of a high bistro quality! Local bakery, chip shop, corner shop and pubs all in walking distance... Great for a long weekend stay definately coming back :-))
